Does anyone have photos or a report on the Victrix Republican Romans being previewed at Salute for us on the other side of the pond? They were supposed to have a flyer detailing the soon-to-be produced Romans and future Carthaginians.

Best,

Keith

There was a flyer about Romans…

Hi Keith.

It will go up on the website this week and a newsletter also. Just catching up on other work after Salute but should be about the middle of the week.

Best regards,

Steve.

Thanks Steve. Really looking forward to their release and your launching into an even more comprehensive Punic Wars line. Kudos for your work on the ancients to date. I have your Mercenary Hoplites and had toyed with converting them to later warriors in Carthaginian service…but, I'll wait to see what you have in the pipe line.

Hi Keith,

We had a few image of the Carthaginian Veterans and Libyan javelin men on display as well. They will be going on the website soon also.

Regards,

Steve.

I'm hoping someone does Italians for the period – they served in the Roman, Pyrrhic and Carthaginian forces, as well as for themselves.

Just added an update to the news page on the Victrix website showing all the parts in the new set plus some images of the next Roman set in pectoral armour and some Carthaginian Veterans and Libyan Javelin men.

Tehy look very good; I'm particularly taken with the look of the velites. I think they could be useful for quite a few different things, in addition to the intended use. In fact I am itching to get my mits on them…

I think the ancient Greeks from Victrix are fantastic. These new releases look very promising indeed!

Yes I have some of the Greeks (peltasts, unarmoured hoplites), they are terrific. Also full of conversion opportunities…

Simon, more figures? Cheers Mike

STEVE LBMS17 Apr 2014 1:19 p.m. PST

Hi Simon and Barry,

Glad you both like the look of the figures.

The Velites we wanted to make as useful for other figures as possible. That is why we did not build the swords into the bodies on these. It means you can swap the sword scabbards from left or right and use the daggers for the Levies. Also once the Italians come out you can use the Italian style helmets to make unarmoured Italian allies and enemies.

They should be some very versatile sets.

Regards,

Steve.

The Carthaginians look great from what little we've seen so far!

colin knight17 Apr 2014 2:46 p.m. PST

Carthaginians look great. Relic and Aventine for elephants unless Victrix are planning plastic ones???

STEVE LBMS17 Apr 2014 3:01 p.m. PST

Myself and Julian have often talked about plastic elephants. I have to admit though that we would be a little scared they would end up as white Elephants (Pardon the pun!)

Just how many would people buy? they would have to have Elephant escort in the box.

Anyway we have to get some cavalry out first before tackling large Pachyderms!

Mike, always more figures! :-)

Yes Steve, they look very versatile.

Cheers, Simon

Excellent looking figures Steve – loved the Centurion and Carthaginian Veteran. Do like the fact legionaries grip their pila just behind the weight. Pet hate of mine when they do not!

very impressive thumbs up thumbs up thumbs up thumbs up

colin knight17 Apr 2014 4:04 p.m. PST

have to agree….although an amazing idea plastic elephants risky. Also would benefit from rules allowing more than just couple.
However plastic elephants would be really amazing and full of conversion posibilities,

Scipios Dream17 Apr 2014 8:44 p.m. PST

Steve,

Wow! This has certainly been worth the wait. If the final product is anything like the renders, we are in for a very enjoyable ride through the Punic Wars factions.

I will be in England for a stop-over, heading back to the U.S. from Sri Lanka, on June the 5th. However, it does not look like these will be ready by then? Any thoughts on how long it will take U.S. retailers to get these after you release them?

Regarding the plastic elephants, they are done in 1/72 as a plastic set and although I know that the medium is a little different, they seem to sell well in that size. With crew, escort, and possibly higher ranking officers…you could have a worthwhile venture. Regardless, the cavalry would be a great step outside the box.

Keep them coming Steve!

Keith

STEVE LBMS18 Apr 2014 10:03 a.m. PST

Hi Keith,

Glad you like the look of the figures but I really don't think there will be any frames until at least the middle of June.

I suppose USA retailers will get them through Northstar. I see a few retailers have our Greeks on sale in the USA but no retailer has ordered them from us direct. I think we have been a bit shunned by USA retailers buying from us direct. We would really like a good stockist in the USA so if anybody knows a good company to team up with let us know.

Yes we will have to think hard about the Elephants. I always thought Ancient Indians would be good as they can have quite a few Elephants in an army.

Steve.

colin knight19 Apr 2014 7:08 a.m. PST

Ancient Indians…fantastic idea!!!! I am in. Agreed…more elephants required. Just need rule set to allow lots in army list too.

French Wargame Holidays29 Apr 2014 2:29 a.m. PST

they look great!
