In about 2 weeks, weather permitting, I will be visiting Shiloh for a weekend. I've never been before. I'll mostly be touring the battlefield looking around for the first time, and taking pictures for upcoming books and projects. I'll probably be staying somewhere in Corinth. Does anybody have any tips or suggestions on the trip in general? Anything off the wall or unusual? Things I shouldn't miss? |

Check out Corinth as well, you can walk out to the remains of Battery F and they have rebuilt and preserved some other parts of the field. Good catfish and hush puppies as well. |

Go up to savanah. They have a nice museum. See the cherry mansion where grant heard the gunfire and knew the battle had started. Darn wonderful battlefield. link Also get your butt over to hagy's catfish hotel near Shiloh

If you have time, Brice's Crossroads is about 30 minutes down Highway 45 from Corinth. They have a great museum, with film narrated by Shelby Foote, and mostly pristine battlefield. Also, Iuka battlefield site is about 20 minutes east of Corinth on Highway 72. They have a Courthouse Museum and several marked sites. You will have a great time in the area. Russell's Beef House was great the last time we went, and the Dinner Bell also has great food. |

Thanks for all the tips. I appreciate it. Unfortunately, I will only be at the Shiloh park itself, with no time to go to any other sites. Hopefully I can visit and photograph every square inch in the two days I'll be there. :) |

We walked Shiloh last April for the anniversary. The trails are well laid out and it is well marked now as well. At the time, candles were laid out to mark casualties and that was far more sobering than anything else that day. Also agree on the Catfish house! Just don't order dessert and think it will be small

Taking along a copy of the War College guide is useful. It's been quite awhile since I was there, but I think it's my favorite battlefield to visit. |

I've only been there once, but it was great. There is no substitute for actually walking the ground to really understand a battle. |

Sadly, I haven't, and won't be able to make it to Shiloh this year. At least not in April. I'll have to plan for next year. That just means the Shiloh scenario book will be bumped to 2015. I'll have to elevate something else to take its place. Hmmm. Maybe the Forgotten Campaigns book
