Rousselot did several plates on the light regiments, and only showed one soldier with blue overalls – an officer. Dark blue may have been reserved for officers of line and light regiments, and some Guard units. The private men of the lights are shown with overalls of white or tan, as for the line.
Light infantry coats were short-tailed for most regiments, long-tailed for all line regiments. Turnbacks were dark blue for light, white for line.
Some light regiments had long-tailed coats as some periods pre-Bardin: 2nd; 12th; 16th; 17th late; 27th are examples.
Lapels were white for the line, squared at the bottom, edged scarlet. They were dark blue for the light, edged white, pointed at the bottom. Carabiniers and voltigeurs of the 16th light had scarlet edging on their coats!
Cuff for the light pre-Bardin were most often dark blue, edged white. Flaps were red, edged white. Some light infantry voltigeurs had yellow flaps (9th Leger is one).
Line regiments most often had red cuffs, edged white, then blue flap edged red. Variations are as the 8th Line – no flap, just a red edge on edge of the opening where the flap is for others.
Same regiments had red cuff flaps edged white. The 26th is shown with white cuff flaps edged red.
The 34th line is shown with dark blue cuffs edged red, and with red flaps with no edging.
