I was surprised that there wasn't a topic here yet about the MERCS: Recon Kickstarter. I find it interesting because I always liked the sculpts of the MERCS minis (skirmish game), but didn't want to buy into another metal miniatures line (heavy, more fragile then plastic, requires super glue to which I'm allergic, expensive, etc.). So now that they are doing their MERCS minis in plastic and packaged into an interesting looking 'board' game I should put my money where my mouth is (and I did).

link

They have two board games (Counter Threat & Assination Protocol), each features two MERCS factions with 5 hard plastic miniatures each and 10 softer plastic security forces.

A MERCS: Recon box costs $60 USD (20 minis/box)
A set of two will cost $120 USD and includes a KS exclusive GCC Judge and all the free stretch goals. (currently at 79 minis and counting)
A pledge of $200 USD will get you the two boxed sets, the KS exclusive GCC Judge, all the free stretch goals, a dice game called Mercs: Conflict, a novel, the MERCS 2nd edition hard cover rulebook, and all the MERCS 2nd edition decks that are unlocked (currently 8, more to follow)

They also have multiple expansions, addon minis and other extra's.

An expansion is essentially a 5 man MERC squad with two special employees, some cards, a room and some special rules/missions.

Currently at $410 USDk, ~2400 backers and still 6 days to go.

Notes: They are using two kinds of plastic, hard plastic for the MERCS miniatures, those will also be 2+ part (and will take plastic glue for a strong bond). And a softer plastic (probably a PVC instead of an ABS) for all the security/workers minis (the grunts), these won't require assembly/glue.

Yepp, I'm in at roughly $280 USD as well. This looks like a blast, and it's starting to pick up speed again now at the end.

Here are my intital thoughts and impressions after having read the beta rules: link

How big are the miniatures? Do they scale with GW?

See for yourself:

Kind of depends which faction your comparing it with, Space Marines are supposed to be 7ft tall super soldiers. MERCS just aren't 7ft tall ;-)

Backed it as well. Stumbled on it via boardgame geek link….
