I'm not sure how to deal with the pain of Khurasan's maintenance halt. Do I go 70's sensitive guy and listen to soft-rock songs of longing, or do I go 90's grungy-despair, or do I just quietly weep in a corner somewhere? I'm so sad I may go back to GW! |
Gunner Dunbar | 11 Apr 2014 3:47 p.m. PST |
No don't do it, GW is a hard core drug and once you are hooked it will devour your soul and money, if you need a fix until your regular dealer is supplying again, try GW lite, as I do link Oh hang on, you will need Khurasan for a lot of that to, your screwed, go with 90s grundgy despair. |

Why not crank some 80's METALLLLL!!!!! And say where's my metal You could get the led out too ! |
Justin Penwith | 11 Apr 2014 4:04 p.m. PST |
I do wish Khurasan could keep their site up and just close the store down, when they take a break. I often want to look at their figure line and dream/plan/possibly order, but am unable to even look at their catalog. |
Coyotepunc and Hatshepsuut | 11 Apr 2014 4:10 p.m. PST |
Go look at Rebel Miniatures, a very nice complement to some of Khurasan's lines. |

A mix of 80's and 90's, to shock your system, and keep you from thinking about it. |
Justin Penwith | 11 Apr 2014 4:44 p.m. PST |
@punkrabbitt returns I do look at Rebel and have ordered from them. Both companies put out good products, but only one seems to be available to view year-round. |
McWong73 | 11 Apr 2014 4:50 p.m. PST |
Rebel minis is a full time business to be fair. Khurasan isn't, I'm just grateful we get to benefit from Jon's hobby. |
Jojojimmyjohn | 11 Apr 2014 4:52 p.m. PST |
Why not just use the wayback machine? It's a capture of the entire site as of late February. It's how all the cool kids get their fix when Jon is tangled up in packing tape

I agree with the Son of Thor on this one. Attack the lead pile! And save up so that when Jon opens back up you can hit him with a nice fat order without the Significant Other getting bent out of shape about it

Unless i missed something Rebel Minis is not a fulltime business. It was his FT job that kept Mike from going to Cold Wars this past March. But i agree that i would like to drool over Khurasan's site when he shuts it down to fill orders and such. Grimm |

I have been closed for almost a week and I still have 50 orders backlogged. I have people angrily canceling orders. That's not the kind of customer service I want to offer. I'm hoping that if I have a huge push this weekend I can get the backlog down to manageable numbers. Well, the site will go back up on Monday no matter what. I've explained in the past why I can't just shut the cart on and off and keep the store up. I will be trying a workaround for that soon but I can't even think about that until I have my tax return filed

While I do wish I could look at the pretty pictures, too
I appreciate that Jon is working his tail off to provide the best customer service he can in the limited time he has to devote to a second job. |
Grimmnar | 11 Apr 2014 8:42 p.m. PST |
I just dont understand why people are angrily cancelling orders. Not like they have been waiting weeks upon months for their order. Anyone who knows Khurasan knows how the company works and the limitations that it is a side business to you. Like you have said you have had the site down for a week. You made notice ahead of time of the shut down. You stated why the shut down was necessary. It isn't anything new. I just dont get people some time. Especially in this niche market of ours. And i work big box retail. But i do look forward to the day you get that little work around up and running. Some days i just needs my eye candy. :-) Grimm |

Sorry to hear some people can't handle a slight delay in getting their toy soldiers. With the incredible level of quality we are getting with 15mm science fiction stuff at the moment maybe some people are forgetting a lot of these companies are basically done for the love of it in peoples spare time. Anyway I, and I am sure many others in this thread, appreciate the hard work you put in. As for myself I think I will sit down with a glass of the hard stuff and listen to soppy power ballads while staring out a window forlornly till the khurasan site comes back online. |

I'm not attacking Jon, I think he provides a valuable service to us wargamers. However I don't like that when I make an order I get an email saying "Thanks, should ship within the week." and it actually takes 2-3 weeks before it ships. That isn't good business or customer relations. If you have 50-80 orders back logged, then maybe hire some help. Someone who makes these cool minis has to have friends. Pay them with a few figs to tape boxes or something. |
khurasanminiatures | 11 Apr 2014 11:06 p.m. PST |
I work out of my house. I'm not going to have a stranger wandering around my house unsupervised during the day. And my stock system is so convoluted, no one could ever understand it but me. My message about things shipping within a week is a relic of when I had a few dozen codes for sale, rather than hundreds upon hundreds. I really need to change it, but the problem is, shipping is so dependent upon many factors, it's very hard to give even an estimate. Some orders are in the post the next day, but others take weeks. Not sure how to handle it tbh. |
Gunner Dunbar | 11 Apr 2014 11:40 p.m. PST |
I imagine the cancellations are from customers who aren't familiar with why there maybe a delay or why the site is closed, maybe it would help if you had a couple of lines on the front page advising you are a one man op, and the site periodically shuts down for order catch up. Knowledge is power and when these people don't know why there is a delay, they probably feel power less. |
A Buzzard HQ | 12 Apr 2014 1:55 a.m. PST |
Having witnessed a similar situation close-up with Jez and Old Crow Models, (including his admirable attempts to fit 36 hours work into every 24 hour day!) perhaps the solution is to refocus your second job/hobby business into a more manageable number of ranges? Maybe retire or sell off some, to reduce the stress on yourself. After all most people initially got involved in whatever capacity within the manufacturing side of wargames because it was their fun hobby they wanted to develop. Many have successfully made the transition to full time devotion to their business, or employed staff to help out, but those aren't the only options. You seem to be at or nearing that tipping point, where each new release can only compound your order fulfilment problems. But more important than any of the above, is to step back, take a couple of deep breaths, and focus on what you want Khurasan to be, before it impacts something much more important i.e. your health. |
panzersaurkrautwerfer | 12 Apr 2014 3:49 a.m. PST |
Hah! So I made my first order from Khurasan about a month ago, and was really happy with the stuff I received, pretty much exactly the break I was looking for from my usual 1940-2014 range. And it had arrived in a week (mail takes a while to get to me so that's good!). So being quite pleased with the product, and just how darned fast it got to me, I made another order. And I've been waiting for the last four weeks for it to show up. So, slightly offended, and wondering if I hadn't messed up my address (especially given that it was "shipping within the week) I decided to send a "what the heck?" email once the website came back up. Knowing what I know now though, man totally cool with it. I'd gotten the impression Khurasan was a much larger operation than it actually is. Looking forward to my order when it shows up. Still miss ogling the page though. I've already decided I'm using the Siler for all my Heavy Tank needs, and the various Red Banner models for my OPFOR guys, but haven't quite settled on the "good guy" medium tank/IFVs yet. |
parrot1500 | 12 Apr 2014 4:36 a.m. PST |
Jon, please know I'm not complaining. I love your site and products and all you do and your customer service is amazing. But I wanted to share my misery with others who feel the same way about you. And I wanted an excuse to listen to Simon and Garfunkel again. :-) |
erraticassassin | 12 Apr 2014 5:07 a.m. PST |
What's the betting that those disgruntled customers cancelling their orders were only going to add their purchases to the lead pile for several months anyway
? As Gunner Dunbar has suggested, maybe a large front-and-centre notice about being a one-man-band might reassure those customers who don't visit TMP regularly. |
Capt Flash | 12 Apr 2014 6:30 a.m. PST |
Heh, I'm ready for my pieces to arrive. In fact, I'm already set to paint them as soon as they're prepped! But I'm not sweating the delay as I knew ahead of time about his backlogs and I also value his product lines for being EXACTLY the aesthetic for the force I'm using them for. The Heavy Grav tank and heavy gunships match my OG/Blue Moon Orion mercenaries and Heavy Gear mechs. So Jon, keep up the great work!!! I'm not planning on canceling, and, in fact, have my next order already planned! -Edgar |

Capt Flash, just got back from mailing your order! Dreadful business how long it took to post. By the way, I did not mention that people are canceling orders so my friends here could criticise that -- I'm sorry if it appears that way. These people have a completely legitimate gripe and I'm completely at fault. |

"I'd gotten the impression Khurasan was a much larger operation than it actually is." I think that nails it on the head, I think that because of the below points most people think Khurasan is a multi staffed corporation. 1) because the site looks so proffesional 2) the service is generally good 3) and there are so many products anyway, I have an order in and am happy to wait as long as it takes to get these goodies. |
sleb22 | 12 Apr 2014 4:39 p.m. PST |
With the variety and quality of the models it is worth the wait. I could not believe how nice they are. I will definetely order from Jon again. |

I have to laugh at everyone complaining about delays. Come live in Australia and order miniatures from anywhere other than your next door neighbour if he happens to make models – ANY order from a seller who lives outside of your immediate area takes at least a month, maybe more, to get to you. Quite often I forget about the models, so it's kind of like a pleasant surprise when something comes in the mail! As for the complaints about the 'random shutdown' process. Why not make it an official shutdown every Friday and Saturday? Or some other two days each week? If people can see that the site says "THIS WILL BE SHUT DOWN EVERY XDAY AND YDAY FOR ORDER FILLING" then no one can complain. :) |
Nandalf | 13 Apr 2014 2:35 a.m. PST |
Von Trinkenessen – "That said I still get Jon's stuff faster in the UK than several UK companies that will remain nameless
.." I concur whole-heartedly! :O Mr Khurasan – I think you're responding perfectly (and professionally) to a problem I'm pleased you have (too many orders! Too successful eh :D ). All the best |

I'm quite happy with khurasan. My first order for 15mm SciFi was with Khurasan, Rebel Minis, and Critical Mass. I'm so happy with those three that I will keep them as my Primary go to shops. I should be ready for armour and CAS assets for my Alien Legion and further Op4 shortly. The jade throne foreign battalion are pure awesome! ;) The wait if any, doesn't bother me! |

What's the betting that those disgruntled customers cancelling their orders were only going to add their purchases to the lead pile for several months anyway
? No bet, I still have a bunch of those Kofun-era (pre-)samurai lurking in the lead mountain, and I think I ordered them as soon as they were available! Plus Exterminators, a DPLS, a Doe
I second War Monkey's idea about shutting down a couple days per week to account for honey-dos and/or order filling. Not sure what your lowest order days are, but I'd suggest them. |
Dropzonetoe | 13 Apr 2014 10:04 a.m. PST |
I order a lot from Jon. If his site is down I order from others. If its up he gets a sale. Never had a problem waiting for delivery but honestly never got stuck with a wait to begin with. I'd paint the backlog ifi did. Don't get the anger personally . |
