Nice. They continue to deliver quality models. |

That appears to have only one engine, thus not a TIE. I call shenanigans. |

What movie or show was this used in? |

I think it was in the video games, but not in the movies. |

It was in the video games. The fluff says a few were at Endor, but not enough to matter and they weren't seen in the movie. Since then the TIE/D has shown up in some comics and other EU material. Basically, the idea is that the Tarkin Doctrine was anti-fighter. A star destroyer carried enough short-range fighters to protect itself and conduct patrols and inspections, but was more a battleship than a carrier. The TIE was perfect for eliminating enemy fighters. But the rebels changed tactics and became fighter-centric
the X-wing could reliably beat the TIE, and the TIE pilots slipped in quality, etc etc. Tarkin even died in a fighter raid (first death star). The TIE/D was when the Empire said "screw this, let's have the best fighters". It's got all the amenities. Maybe is even a bit over-armed. Its one weakness is that it's huge, so it's an easy (if agile) target in a dogfight. |

Yep, first showed up in the TIE Fighter game as a late game 'super craft', it also appeared in TIE Fighter vs. X-wing. Other that it's appeared in some books and stuff, as Wellspring describes. -Will |

In the simulators it was an awesome craft to fly. I'm looking forward to it in the game, but it's gonna need to be most expensive ship you can field in terms of point cost, or it'll break the game wide open for the Imperial players. On the other hand, it's sure to become a bigger fire magnet than Darth Vader's TIE-Advanced. I predict legions of Rebel players will shout, "They've got a Defender— kill it first!" every time one appears. The pilot's gonna get a complex. |

Based on the cards viable in the preview, the base model with a 1 pilot skill is 30 points. That is 1 point more than Vader. |
