"Visitors to the DSA 2014 Defence Services Asia Exhibition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, (14-17 April 2014) will be able to see for themselves an inflatable body armour system which is proving extremely popular with Navies and Coastguards worldwide.

UK-based BCB International is a major exporter of cutting-edge technologies that would not be out of place in a James Bond movie. Their inflatable body armour system which automatically inflates within seconds of being immersed in water is attracting a high level of interest.

BCB International's Sales Manager, Ben Simmons, said: "We have seen in recent months a surge in the number of orders for inflatable body armour systems to be worn by navy and coastguard personnel throughout the world. The system provides a high degree of ballistic protection without impeding the wearer's comfort and mobility. The life jacket is located under the body armour which means that it will inflate even when the body armour has been impacted by several rounds…"

"….without impeding the wearer's ….mobility".

Who do they think they're kidding. Just look at that guy.

He'll have the mobility of a pregnant hippo.

LOL, Mako gums at it again, anyone with the brain of a cricket would know the product manufactures are talking pre in the drink and inflation. The idea is good if it saves lives but once in the water I'd like to be able to ditch the armour so maybe a detachable system would be nice.

The people that knocked/chased you into the water might still be shooting at you.
Perhaps you shouldn't be so quick to insult someone else's intelligence about what is or isn't obvious…

Better than drowning … we wore different versions of "flotation devices"/life vests while running ops off the coast and on the rivers of Central America … back in my youth on 3 deployments with the 101 … One of the units going in with us in RB-15s(big rubber boats) of the coast. They didn't rig their MGs properly to the boats. They hit a reef, boats capsized … The inflatable vests were enough to keep the MG gunners' corpses standing up on the ocean bottom … with M60 MGs acting as weights, heads bowed, arms hunch over, bodies almost vertical, toes touching the sea floor. Swaying in the water with the movement of the sea .. That's what the SF divers told us when they went in to recover the dead …
