Hello all, Does anyone know if the Hanoverian troops had turnbacks during the WSS? I have 3 sources and they all conflict. Pat Condray says only Cav had them after 1705-6, CS Grant states the infantry had them and started the trend, and the CD I have is in German (which I dont read or speak) but shows pics supporting Pat Condray. Thanks in advance and if you could please site the source your info is from. |

Baccus site shows them with turnbacks. link
Not sure what this is based on, but info was collated by Robert Sulentic and I think he can be contacted through the Baccus site, so he may be able to give you his sources. |

Hi steamingdave47, I dont think they are showing turnbacks, I think its just showing the lining color of the coat. I think turnbacks are "the tails on the jacket are "turned back" and buttoned to the back of the jacket thus showing the color of the inside of the jacket" Thanks for the link lots of good stuff on the Baccus site. |

I think you are right! Painted mine with turnbacks, although as they are 10mm not a major feature. I seem to remember reading somewhere (Grant?) that the Hanoverian army were "fashion leaders" and adopted turnbacks quite early. Glad you liked the Baccus site. Not sure how reliable the info is, but it is certainly in a vey convenient form for the time- pressed wargamer. |
