Loved them! (smile).

"Yes at long last I have finished the cricketers off and i am very pleased with the results. I have been using a new painting style, new to me that is, and I have to say I think it has improved my painting style no end. On are using washes and inks to shade and enter dark to light, thin layers to build up the colours. That part that has amazed my the most is that it has not really taken me any longer than normal. But what I have t say is the fact that the sculpts and castes by Sloppy Jalopy and Bill Thornhill as truly amazing and its them that painted themselves. So here are some pictures of the finished chaps and soon there will be a better picture of them"

Oh what a fine body of men…and all doing anything but play cricket! For genuine cricketing postures you have to look in a very strange place – Workshop's Uruk Hai

auction

I had never taken the Twins for cricketers but the poses on these figures are straight out of Wisden…

Maybe there meant to be the Bedsers?

Are they painted up to represent Gentleman or Players?

Chokidar10 Apr 2014 8:34 a.m. PST

I am not too sure when "gentleman" stoped wearing their school or colege colours tied around their waists .. if that was still the practice in the thirties then definitely players (although the usage did date back to the previous century so could possibly not be relevant).

Also makes me think that they need a mounted detachment in the form of the local hunt or even better and in deference to Armand – the Polo Club!!!!!
You could even slip in a suitable latin looking "mercenary" or visitor for fun!!!!

Many thanks for your deference my good friend! (smile).

I have a large collection of the VBCW figures but I didn't think these guys fit in. Too many shinguards and gloves. The more I look at them the more I like them. I think I will convert that bowler with the round hat into a Lewis Gunner. That could explain wearing the gloves. The trainer carrying the bag has extra ammo.
