Just about done with my BSG fleet and am starting on a scratch build WH40k Ork and Space Wolves Fleet. I thought I'd scale it to fit my Ravenstar Studios ships, but yikes! The BFG frigates are about as big as a Battlestar. Playing around with some images this evening, looks like I would only need the smaller class of ships. I've never played BFG, but have Imperial and Chaos fleets unpainted. Anyone have size comparisons for the Ork ship classes? Can't seem to find any on the net. That is an awesome comparison! |

Well, the Star Trek stuff beats any BSG and BFG ships hands down -- able to shoot high energy beams and energy torpedoes while travelling faster than than the speed of light

lol Um, no. Trek moved away from warp-speed combat after TOS, all the 'tech manuals' for TNG and later say that Trek ships fight at sublight speeds. Also, stardestroyer.net pretty much covers it all. Warning, Scary Math By Engineers present. |

;) The preference is to fight at sub light speed, certainly, but there are plenty of examples in TNG, DS0, VOY and even ENT of warp speed battles – mostly a pursuing ship trying to force another ship to drop to sublight it must be said. But I would generally rate the Star Trek universe ships as punching above their weight due to their combination of technologies. |

How can you say that?!? BFG has MAGIC! (Well, their psych IS magic, renamed.) Yeah, I go to StarDestroyer for a good laugh: "Of all the voluminous Star Wars and Star Trek publications out there" becomes "only one for each series gives meaningful specifications in real-world units". Notice the choosing of 'meaningful'. 'It's got numbers, so I can use them
' Given you have clearly demonstrated that there isn't 'two' series, a silly discussion for silly people. Engineers sniffing glue. About as good as Steve Cole's original explanation of drone weapons in SFB
Now, I apologize to Guinach for thread-jacking. Anyone else here with manners? Doug |

How can you say that?!? BFG has MAGIC! (Well, their psych IS magic, renamed.) So does Star Trek -- it's called the "Transporter." Since in various episodes and movies they can beam stuff inside unshielded ships at essentially interstellar distances (if not at least light minutes away), all they do is beam a photon torpedo or a bit of antimatter into your BFG ship and BOOM! Basically, ST universe stuff is a totally different tech path than BSG/Star Wars/BFG, so it's not a fair comparison. |

Given you have clearly demonstrated that there isn't 'two' series, a silly discussion for silly people. Engineers sniffing glue Yes, as opposed to those serious people that discuss exact colors for uniforms. Or think TOEs are real and relevant. Or those that think XXmm is a scale of any kind. Glass. House. Stone. Etc. |

That is an awesome chart. I appreciate people's passions but someone had way too much time on their hands! :) Hats off to the graphics and the research. When I was a kid, I thought the Enterprise was huge. Kinda, makes me wonder how 300 space marines can control and defend a 5 mile long battle barge. Had never realized they dwarfed a super star destroyer. |

Until you take the pajama wearing crew into consideration

They don't they have a crew for that, Techmarines and a TON of servitors. The 300 Space Marines only use it as a transport, training, resupply depot, vacation home, etc. Maybe they can be bothered to board an enemy ship once in a while
But as with everything 40k, the fluff doesn't equal the game rules. Otherwise you would have 5 man 1850pt Space Marine armies. Space Marines are the Terminators of the 40k universe and the last Conner is stuck in the Golden Throne
Also keep in mind that BFG ships aren't build exactly sensibly, they are effectively flying cathedrals, to much space in the cathedral and to little in the catacombs. Also the have skull everywhere

Yeah i hear ya on the transport thing. It's space opera and a lot can be explained away. |
