Hi all, I'm just painting some French and Italian dragoons for 1809 and got to the stage of painting the ornaments on the bridles.
Every picture I find of painted examples seems to be different. Some painted copper, some silver. I'm talkin the buckles etc.
Anyone have any insight on this?
Any nationality or unit type would be useful.

I use GW dwarf bronze. Not the most accurate colour but stands out on the table top.

For the French, I believe most of the fittings would be of steel except for the brass bosses bearing the regimental number, which decorated the bit (the part that goes in the horse's mouth). For officers the fittings, including the bit bosses, were of silvered metal.
