JCVD tried out as 'Predator' in a red suit for an early design of Predator with a praying mantis-like head. The just arrived 'Muscles from Brussels' actually thought he'd get to show off his karate skills against Arnie!

It's for the CGI to get the shimmer stealth effect-it never would have looked like that in the film.

Actually, the shimmering cloak effect was no CGI. They just filmed a predator scene twice; Once normally, and once with a special lense that had a different field of view (wider, I think) and later combined both pictures so the predator in the original frame was kind of overlapped by it's surroundings
