Although the pre-orders for 'On the Seven Seas', will begin at the end of May, I couldn't resist showing off this figure that's part of the Nickstarter pre-orders.

Nice to see video games slowly gain the place they deserve alongside books, movies, TV shows and comics as a source for miniature wargaming inspiration. I don't play them myself anymore but I like to watch playthroughs on Youtube, and some of the games are really quite grand.

He indeed looks enough like an Assassin (from A's Creed) to appear as such in 18th C. games spiced with some fantasy / gothic horror / 'pulp' link; and the hooded cloak gives him a nice 'cultist' appearance (who knows, he may even be a Deep One hybrid or have small tentacles around the mouth…).

Btw Black Scorpion is to produce a similar figurine

so you can field a lethal team.

Indeed, obvious inspiration of both figurines:

Possible bodyguard (because of the hood) of this Hasslefree used as a 'cult great priestess': link?

Not yet quite the 'warrior monks' of the Scorpion comics link

but almost close.

I really must read Le Scorpion one day. It strikes me as the coolest of the newer Euro comics.

As for Assassin's Creed 4, the concept of an assassin among Caribbean pirates still doesn't quite click with me, but it's better than the concept of an AWI assassin in the previous game. Honestly, I think they should have just stuck with the settings from the earlier games (the Holy Land during the crusades and renaissance Italy). Those were properly assassin-conducive settings. But then, I also think they should have left out the sci-fi elements from the backstory. There's a tendency with action-adventure video game stories to go for a "more is more" approach, trying to cram as many disparate concepts into a premise as possible.

Anyway, the figure from the OP looks brilliant as what it's supposed to be, even if pirate assassins feel a bit OTT to me personally. Not that the figure needs to represent a pirate assassin, of course. Maybe it's a just a highwayman with a sense for drama, or a Solomon Kane-like character (but somewhat later in history).

Looks like a historic naval launch crew I used to play with!

I always wondered how that assassin character can fight when he wouldn't be able to see a thing with that stupid hood.
