In a rather crazy wargamer gesture, I am building toward the complete order of battle for the 100 Days (Waterloo) Campaign in anticipation of its 200th next year. So far I have completed the French and Prussians and currently started Wellington's lads. Mind you my ratio is only 1:250 for infantry and some 1:500 for cavalry so not that bad! Using plastics as much as possible on large bases and a KISS rule set with the convention setting in mind, the game nonetheless played out much like the historical battle for which I was pleased. link |

Very Nice Auld Minis ter! I take it that the base ( ~10 figs)is a large regiment or small brigade unit? The rules are something near V&B at regimental basing? LMK the flavor of your rules and why the approach you took for this project

I hope that one day you will make your rules available, as from what I read they sound very playable and give credible results. |

The rules are a developing mixture of V&B-ish and DBA-ish tones.(said with a grin) The bases are indeed a brigade for both infantry and cavalry. The artillery represents approximately 30-40 guns with horse guns is there is enough cavalry to justify. Combat is touching of bases, No range fire except for artillery. The ground scale does not justify it. There is little "tactics" Only going into square but a whole brigade would that
.should a division of cuirassiers come at them! The interesting (weird?) aspect is that the artillery model can fire at any and all targets in range regardless of location even if behind own troops or villages etc. They are merely markers as the batteries were deployed throughout the corps and one of which would no doubt be able to fire upon any one target. Very representational stuff these rules. [ The player can do "direct fire" which is like a grand battery effect in that it must have line of sight to that one target but it is almost an automatic hit ] But the firing rules go very quick so does not slow down the game. Most games at conventionswith most rules tend to be very slow, and thus give absolutely no result in the time given to the game session. Thus you get at the end a "I kinda have got your flank here, you kinda beat me there
lets call it a draw" thing. However I am looking to do Waterloo in that four hour game session with an obvious conclusion. Only Corps Commanders may apply. Any Brigade Generals who like to move around battalions can go and play Black Powder or Shako. Any Colonels who like to fiddle around with a half-company of skirmishers can go and play Empire or something else
