Looking at putting some 28mm forces together for this for Bolt Action. Does the concept grab anyone else?

You could do the defense of Notre Dame just NW of the walls of the old city. Probably one of the turning points of the war. The Legion vs varies Israeli groups .

The attraction is the variety of kit and uniform styles…….let alone weapons and vehicles………I've played several scenarios using 8th Army troops, armed civilian militia types and WW1 Arab regulars and irregulars…….not 28's tho'……

Yeah got a couple of foundry French resistance with stens, about to acquire some 8th army via a swap; wondered whether a) people are converting stuff b) waiting on a dedicated range or of course c) uninterested !
I am immune to the whole shiny 'Waffen SS & tigers' tendency with WWII in favour of more ramshackle forces- which this war certainly provides!

I have more pressing projects, escalating Sovs & Germans to 1000pts & a VBCW force but this strikes me as a project I can add to with odd figures as I go along – or via multiuse of other things, ie a universal carrier will serve for aNy of the above

I've liked this idea for a little while. I'd almost certainly do it with Comman Decision. There are several excellent scenarios in Sands of War at that scale.

There are some interesting morale/command factors on both sides

I would, if only I could find the minis needed to game it.

I played it in 6mm! Using WW2 Resistance fighters for Israeli, 8th Army for Egyptians and WW2 French for Syrians. Most interesting conflict for me, not only land but also air dogfights (in 1/600 scale).

After watching Cast A Giant Shadow, I thought it would be interesting. As mentioned, it displays a mix up of World War II uniforms and equipment, as well as a variety of home made armored vehicles. With the growing availability of 28 mm stuff, this might be possible. Especially in the fighting building up to the British withdrawal, you would have a lot of skirmish scenarios.

I Have Melville Shavelson's book 'How to Make a Jewish Movie" that describes his making of Cast a Giant Shadow. (Which was a turkey) – that said his production values were high, he did his best to get the costumes, settings & equipment right.

If you've played SDC's old boardgame "Jerusalem!", it gives some highly flavourful ideas that characterise this war. The game was designed by John Hill, with his customary preference for "period feel" over "accuracy". The game had counters for the Davidka mortar, a leaky halftrack-mounted flamethrower, and various personalities such as Fawzi al-Kaukji and al-Kutub the Mad Bomber.

All the best,

John.
