We played three (3) great Black Powder Pike and Shotte games this weekend in my gaming house-The Rat Palace Redux-Red Oak, Texas. Really like the rules. They'll give me a reason to unbox all the French-Italian Wars, 30 years War and build those Polish and Ottoman armies after all these years. Here's a link to my blog: Steve's Fieldworks. Enjoy! We had a blast this weekend! stevesfieldworks.blogspot.com Steve Miller DFW Irregulars |

Inspiring stuff! How did you model the hedges and King Charles' standard? |

That is a cracking table Steve I don't think you could fail to enjoy a game looking like that. I like your blog too. |

Great looking game! Do you like the individual shot sleeves? I felt it made multiple unit combat cumbersome but that could just be me. Again beautiful game. |

Skeptic: the hedges were automotive 3M abrasive pieces cut into strips, flocked and then based on foam core. King Chuck's standard was just a plain standard from The Flag Dude. He does all my 54mm flags in "cloth" so I thought I'd give him a try on smaller scale stuff. Big Red: I too thought it was a PITA and made the error of trying to adjudicate melee by the unit. The "saves" for pikes and muskets are different so it was an epic failure. I just find it a bit strange my opponent can pick the target of his charge, avoid the pikes, and smack down the muskets in short order
given the fact they did not form hedgehog
that probably should be the way it works. I'm an old WRG Gush rules player from way back. Not having shotte as subunits to the parent pikes is a bit weird but I got over it during the third game. Let's see
8D6+1D6 for charging vs. 3D6 for muskets is a bad day for the infantry no doubt! Does anyone play this differently and how do you do it? Inquirin' mind wants to know. Fotherington: Thanks for the compliment. I am definitely blessed with my own gaming house away from the spousal unit, close to the beer fridge and close to the pool for a Tejas summer game. |

I like using the pike rules from the BP supplement Last Argument of Kings. There are no separate shotte units and the regiment fights as one. Individual troop types cannot be targeted separately. |

Thanks Big Red! I've got Last Argument and will check it out. Simplifying is a good thing and should keep the game geek rules lawyers from plying their whining trade. :) Steve Miller DFW Irregulars |

Looking at the Swedish list, the Pike and Shot units have a hth value of 7, shooting of 2, a morale (save) of 4+, and stamina of 3. Is this what you use? Can you compare it to ECW rules where the pikemen get 6 D6 and the muskets get 3D6. Does the game play much differently using the Argument of Kings "codex"? Thanks for your thoughts on this
