Okay I know GoT doesn't have an "ending" and it's just more of a Sword Opera/The Godfather lurching from one plot to another. But with lots and lots of boobs. And swearing. And I'm okay with that. And since book 5 apparently changes plot, characters and time period, not sure we'll ever get a "conclusion."

But who do you root for in GoT? What ending do you want to see? I would like to see an epic White Walkers vs Dragons showdown. Winner gets to eat whatever people are left.

Seriously is there one character to root for who won't be dead by the end of season 3?

So who ya got?

Zakalwe6405 Apr 2014 7:38 p.m. PST

Book five adds a few new characters and concentrates the action more around Dani and what is happening on the other contiinent, but it dpesn't change plot, charcters and time period.

Huh guess I got told wrong. Good to hear.

I still got Dragons over White Walkers by 3.

John the OFM05 Apr 2014 7:50 p.m. PST

Season 3 was last year, Mark. Do pay attention 007.

Root for Jon Snow. He is not really Ned's bastard son but the child of Rhaegar and Lyanna. That makes him a legitimate pretender. A CONTENDER! Not a SPOILER (yet, it has not been in print) but a THEORY. Google "R + L = J". The clues are all over the place (in the books) on that.

You can root for Danaerys, since she has nicer boobs than Jon and her face was not ripped apart by an eagle, but so far in the books all she does is wander aimlessly, conquering cities and freeing slaves with good intentions but failing in the Nation Building phase. Do you really want to root for a metaphor for Iraq and Afghanistan just because she has a nice rack?
Wait a minute. What am I saying???

Everybody roots for Tyrion. Why go with the mob?

You COULD root for XXXX, but only if you missed last season. He IS dead by the end of Season 3.

EDIT. I changed who dies, since that would be a SPOILER if you are just starting. grin

I'm rooting for Arya and her ever increasing kill list. They are so gonna get it. Oh and someone please horribly maim and beat Joffrey for the love of Pete.

The books will have an ending in Book 7. GoT fans will lynch Martin if it doesn't.
I have a bad feeling though that it will be unsatisfactory. grin

And by the end of Book 5, dragons vs white walkers are not even dreamed about. That is how leisurely Martin is "crafting" this.
I think he has the opposite of Writer's Block. He just keeps finding "interesting" digressions and side plots that do not really need to be fleshed out, but he can't resist. He is like the gamer who has to get the 43rd Foot painted by Saturday, but instead starts priming some M18 Hellcats.

Bashytubits05 Apr 2014 8:00 p.m. PST

I like where you are going with this, Jon snow paints up some M18 Hellcats and blows the crap out of everyone messing up Westeros.

John the OFM05 Apr 2014 8:02 p.m. PST

Hell yes. Tank destroyers would sort out the White Walkers, particularly if you use dragon glass shrapnel.

John the OFM05 Apr 2014 8:29 p.m. PST

BTW, just because someone DIES in Season 3 is no reason to write them off.

Bashytubits05 Apr 2014 9:16 p.m. PST

Yes, it adds a whole new level to "I'll be back".

James Wright05 Apr 2014 9:20 p.m. PST

The dead don't always stay that way in Westeros. =)

Who to root for? I'd say John Snow revealed as the next true dragon to take the throne, and Arya to serve as his hand. I also predict she will kill more than the Hound and the Mount combined. The sad news is when they are both killed mysteriously and horrifically by Podrick Payne.

David Manley06 Apr 2014 3:10 a.m. PST

Indeed, I predict Podrick will prove to be the eventual and surprise "winner" in all of this. Go Pod!!

Any chance of seeing the "Dance Instructor" from Season One again? Besides repeats? He is/was awfully good and we didn't "see" him die. I'd like to see him surface again to finish teaching Arya the fine points of using the pointy end.

John the OFM06 Apr 2014 6:12 a.m. PST

There are crackpot theories that Syrio Forel is a Faceless Man, like Jacguen H'gaaaarrrrrgggghhhh, Arya's friendly assassin in Season 2.
Both are from Braavos, and both take an interest in Arya.
Proof? Why who needs proof? Both are cool!
Seriously, we hear nothing about Syrio. He COULD have been subdued and thrown in the Black Cells. Who came from the Black Cells to go to the Wall? Jaquen!
Note that Jaquwen changes his face the last time Arya sees him. He could have done it too, going from Syrio to Jaccqquen.
So… If you like crackpot theories, unproven and not a SPOILER, there's a freebie. grin

Yeah, he's bad ass and cool. The first time Martin was presented with this theory, he was taken aback, and not in a sly wink-wink way like someone asks about R + L = J. It was kind of a "Why can't people STAY dead?" reaction.

Any chance of seeing the "Dance Instructor" from Season One again?

Nope. He's dead. And he died a good death, by buying Arya time to escape.

You're right about the boobs and the swearing, I guess.

The protagonists of the overarching story, and thus the characters that will almost certainly survive until the big climax, are Jon, Sansa, Arya, Bran, Daenerys and Tyrion. That's the impression I get from reading the books, anyway.

But there's nothing wrong with rooting for somebody else, if you find their story compelling. I'm a big fan of Sam, Brienne and Davos, for instance. And a lot of female readers/watchers root for Theon, allegedly.

Doesn't matter who sits on the uncomfortable chair, it'll be a smirking Littlefinger who's acting as the Hand, pulling all the strings, and marrying whichever Stark girl strikes his fancy this week. Edit that, whichever Stark girl is most useful this week.

And from early on, I always assumed GRRT was going to end it all just like Hamlet, with mutual assured destruction and the last protagonist choking on poison, realizing it didn't have to be like this.

John the OFM06 Apr 2014 7:46 a.m. PST

He can only get his hands on one Stark girl currently. Unless we are talking about the "fake Arya". grin

Stoelzels Structures06 Apr 2014 7:51 a.m. PST

After slaying the Wolf-Dragon, I don't think Podrick will claim the throne but instead retire to a pleasure house.
