Review of The Faded Sun Trilogy by C. J. Cherryh. About three months late!

Enjoy,
Blake

I think I read the series in the late 80's after I read Dune. Really liked it a lot too.

I also read The Sunset Warrior trilogy by Eric Van Lustbader around the same time and liked them a lot too.

Good stuff. But I much prefer the books from the Downbelow Station universe.

cheers

Downbelow Station is set in the same universe as the Faded Suns books. They're at different points in the timeline, but it's still the Alliance-Union world.

Good reads all, although the Chanur novels are my favorites by a small margin.

I'd forgotten that. It's been 20+ years since I read the Faded Sun books.

cheers

Been a while for me too – everything's compilation volumes these days if you can find them at all. I can remember playing out some of the battles from the novels with the old Metagaming Warp War rules. Always seemed suitably deadly.

Metagaming! Oh man that stirs the cobwebs. I think I played Warp War a couple of times way back when. Mostly played Stellar Conquest in the '70s (and still have my copy of the game!)

cheers

I must re-read those. And re-read the whole Foreigner series from the beginning…

Privateer4hire06 Apr 2014 5:53 a.m. PST

Stronty, CJ just released another Foreigner novel. Saw it in hard back yesterday at the bookstore in new releases.

There're apparently 15 books now and she's rumored to be writing another trilogy. Yikes!

I really like Cherryh's stories, 1st discovered them back in the 80s. I'll have to reread them some day as it's been quite a few years, but my favourites have to be the Chanur Saga and the Morgaine Quartet.

I have enjoyed all her books, the Chanur Saga being near the top of the list but my favorite was The Hunter of Worlds.

But my favorite scene is when the Norway breaks free in Downbelow Station.

Thanks for the thread, it is good to see Ms. Cherryh gettings some propers on TMP.

Faded Sun were the first Cherryh books I read more years ago than I care to think about.

I think I like the Morgaine books best and would like to see more. I think that someone working on the Stargate movie had read this and used some of the ideas.
