Was there ever any Zouave artillery units? I am looking to make a crew for my 1897 Belgian Force Publique in 28mm. I need a basic frame work and a head swap, I am not going to green sculpt the bulk of the crew.

I don't know of any specifically Zouave Artillery units. Zouave style uniforms were worn by troops in a number of countries. The Turkish army was wearing zouave style uniforms during their 1877 war with Russia. Askari makes a Turkish gun crew for that period, which you might want to look at: link
They also have a set called "Colonial Artillery," which is a French Marine gun crew. Three of the figures are in the standard Marine uniform with sun helmets. The other two (one kneeling and one leading a mule) look like Tirailleurs Senegalais borrowed to man the guns. Since the Tirailleurs had a uniform with some zouave characteristics, they might be worth a look--perhaps the sun helmet guys could become Belgian officers and NCOs.

I second Askari. Castaway arts makes a West African gun crew for their Ashanti Wars. Also foundry makes a Askari gun crew which could work.

The only zouave artillery i know of is the imperial mexicain conta guerilla artillery. I made my by buying VMI artillery from redoupt and remodel th trousers and gave them zouave heads.

The force publique artillery is avaliable from wargames foundry and must not be custom made.

Greetings

Ps: please visit the Belgium africa museum in Tervuuren. They have a hall on the force publique.

The Darkest Africa miniature line by Foundry has Force Publique Askaris but no gun crew wearing the Zouave style uniform.

Hi, I used German Askari artillery figures and Krupp moutain gun for my Belgian Force Publique artillery figures. They're from Tiger Miniatures courtesy of Richard Brook's Recreational Conflict.
