I need a new idea for a better type of flight stand for my 1/600 aircraft. Presently, I use this: link But the whole drilling the aircraft, getting them to perch straight and level until the glue hardens, etc is just getting to be too much of a pain in the . I'd like to go to a rare earth magnet system and something unobtrusive on the tabletop. I've talked to CorSec and it's too small for their Omni Stand system. Any great ideas out there? |

Just glue the magnet to the belly of the planes. No drilling required, unless the underside is especially round. If so, you might want to drill out a divit for the magnet to rest in. |

Yes, the magnet isn't the problem. A stand to stick it to is. The wires I presently use are too small a gauge to top with a magnet. Stands that I've seen on the net are too big a contraption for 1/600 (ie the stand is so hefty that it detracts from the tiny aircraft perched atop it) and therefore way too intrusive on the tabletop. I need something designed with 1/600 in mind. |

You're stuff looks awesome, so I hope this doesn't draw too many laughs or an inordinate amount of derision, but here's a pic of how I'm doing things now:
Again, not nearly as pretty as what you're doing, but, in my defense, a few years ago I was doing a bunch of work with wire and scenic bases myself, but it was taking too long and kept falling apart. It all depends on what you can live with, and these work for me. These are cheap and the only time they take is cementing the aircraft to one of the clear Lego blocks. V/R, Jack |

I've always been happy with the clear plastic stands from EM-4. |

I think I'd like a hybrid. A base that I can texture and flock, as I do now, so it blends in to the table, but something other than a wire to hold the aircraft up. Something thick enough to be able to glue a magnet to the top of it. Lucite rod? Something like your idea, JustJack. Dom, would you have a photo of an EM-4 stand? |

A number of companies make stands using a magnet system – CorSec, Fight's On!, CY6! guys. I glue a nail on the plane and a magnet to a 1/4" dowel. Then I have a washer with 3/4" of plastic tube with a 1/4" internal diameter glued to it. You simply put the right length of dowel into the plastic tube and set the a/c on top of the magnet. This is for 1/300. For 1/600, you could use a 2 magnet system effectively – a magnet on the a/c and one on the dowel. |
