Actually, when an ACW brigade formed line and began to advance, it functioned like a line of beaters at a big hunt, flushing any game in the area and driving them before the line. If the brigade formed up in the woods, the first hint you would have of an attack would be a wave of rabbits, squirrels, deer, etc. coming towards you out of the woods. These little guys could be used for something like that, though some of the poses don't seem very useful for that sort of thing (see various TMP discussions on the usefulness of some human poses). I suppose this would apply to other North American wars (AWI, FIW) as well as to warfare in Europe and the South American wars of independence. Grelber |

Some the guys in our group use animals like that
. as markers for known movement of unknown elements. Its a nice effect, much less disruptive than "standard" markers. So
. two of those are roadkill? Chalfant |

I could see using those as markers, or just set dressing. Also familiars, or a fun swarm for a Halfling or Wood Elf army. |

Lots of other useful animals on their site, including dogs, cats, birds, rats, reptiles, fish, barnyard animals, forest animals, river animals like otters and beavers, marine animals, and cool African animals I haven't seen in miniature before, like meerkats. |

Speaking of squirrels, here's a "horror" story I heard in childhood. As it was meant for children, it won't be that scary for the readers of this forum. One night a boy accepted a dare to spend the night at a construction site in the woods. The place was reputed to be haunted. So he went out there and found a place to sit that was lit by a single light from a toolshed. Time passed. Two squirrels appeared, which was strange enough as squirrels are not normally active at night. One squirrel was normal-sized, the other about rabbit-sized. The squirrels stared at the boy, as if sizing him up. The larger one said to the smaller one, "What should we do with him?" The smaller one replied, "We'll wait for Hank." The larger one said, "Right" and both squirrels found themselves a perch to keep a watch on the boy. The boy was frightened by this, but decided to tough it out. A third squirrel showed up, about the size of a house cat. That squirrel asked the first two, "What should we do with him?" Again the smaller one replied, "We'll wait for Hank." "Right", and the third squirrel settled in with the others. Shortly a fourth squirrel showed up, about the size of a terrier. "What should we do with him?" Again the smaller one replied, "We'll wait for Hank." "Right", and the fourth squirrel settled in with the others. The boy is very scared now, but hangs in there. The fifth squirrel arrives, about the size of a Great Dane. "What should we do with him?" The smaller one replies again, "We'll wait for Hank." "Right" At this point, the boy's nerve goes, and he runs off down the road for home, shouting back, "Tell Hank I couldn't wait!" |

Squirrels as big as cats
It's probably better for them. The last time I talked to a red squirrel, which was on a tree near my house, the squirrel looked at me; and it answered me (not very politely, I must say). My cat watched us. The following day, I found the same (but dead) squirrel in my bedroom, under the bed! Nice miniatures, BTW. Oooh I think I must have them.
And
I just looked at the website
which appears to be a French website
one of these squirrels is described as "écrasé" (=run over by a car!) |
