Barry and I played this game as a test of the scenario to be run at Historicon in July. 28mm figures, Field of Battle 2nd edition rules, 6 x 12 foot table.

The French forces include a Divsion of conscripts, and almost the entire Middle and Old Guard

The Russians have 2 small Infantry Corps and a Cavalry Corps, plus some Prussian support… maybe.

Overall, a classic contest bewteen Quality and Quantity!

There were cavalry charges galore

A bold attack by the Infantry of the Guard

and plenty of Artillery fire as well!

Thank you for the AAR and excellent as always Peter.

A future reason to finally paint up my Old Guard infantry…

As it is, I had to proxy half the Old Guard using The Italian Guard Grenadiers (who I've gotten tons of use out of over the years, The Grand Duchy of Warsaw Guards (perhaps never on the table as themselves thus far), and the Wurttemburg Guard Grenadiers (ditto). That is making me consider adding another Old Guard unit or two to my collection, which is insane considering how seldom they see real action. Of course, I'm, already planning on adding a small contingent of Gendarmes'd Elite!

Hmm, how about the 3rd (Dutch) Guards….

Oooooooh, shiny! :-)

The 3rd Dutch Grenadiers are good. Surprised Peter you don't have that regiment painted with it's white coat and red facings. You can use them with your Kingdom of Holland too.

Must be me and no desire to paint the OG Grenadier and Chasseurs a pied regiments too soon. I almost have everyone else who marched beside them painted in 25/28mm. Two gaming group members have the OG units painted so maybe that is the reason.

My French guard:

Dozen or so of French OG and YG artillery batteries plus the required OG train support.

Plus the Italian guard regiments (2 Grenadier, 2 Chasseur, Marine, and the 4 "YG" Conscripts btns.). No Wurttemburg, Saxon or Polish guard battalions yet.

One day….the famous French OG will find the painting table.

P.S. We game in a rough scale of 1:100 for the unit sizes so a 6 miniature unit is 600 man formation.

Michael, that's pretty funny the length to which you have gone to avoid painting the Old Guard infantry, but a most impressive Guard Corps regardless!

Do you have the Lithuanian Tartars in with the 3rd Lancers?

TMPWargamerabbit04 Apr 2014 8:43 p.m. PST

Yes Peter…. Hmmm not on the list the LT's. Better check the French spreadsheet inventory list. Maybe as inventory on my DOW Polish army list. Also have the Kaukas regiments too.

I don't think I have ever tabletop pushed an OG battalion come to think of it…. scary for gaming since 1975 with napoleonics. Having too much fun with the poor old line and legere. I even have played with my painted 1813 march battalions/regiments.

Used Russian guard yes, Austrian grenadiers yes, English guard yes, Prussian guard yes, Ottoman janissary yes, Spanish guard yes, Dutch guard, yes, Italian guard yes, French middle and young guard yes. Even my Danish and Swedish Liv guard regiments.

I fear the day I push them…"Le Garde Recule"

Back to TMP post. Are you going to scenario the other battles of 1814?
