Curious to see if anyone has seen or run games that use large scale spaceships 1/1000 or 1/1400. Ravenstar makes some nice large scale ships and there are plenty of Star Trek and Yamato 2199 kits out there.

I always thought that a participation game at a convention using these kits would be pretty cool – need a lot of space and probably have to plan some custom mounting systems. Can't really see it running on the floor though…would need to be mounted on a pole/rod high enough off the ground to be seen easily….maybe 5'.

Would like to hear anyone's experiences or thoughts.

Thanks

Never seen large scale spaceships but there was a guy at the HMGS conventions that did 25mm pirate ships and had them mounted on stanchions. The "water" was implied, it was really kinda cool. I imagine you could do something similar to stay off the floor.

There was a post last year on this board IIRC that was about a lawn game of Full Thrust using large kitbashed starship models. I for one have been pondering doing just such a participation event some say before I shed my mortal coils…evil grin

I remember that link. After some googling I found it again: link

John Hurt put on some large scale games here in central FL for years usually at Megacon.

can't find any other pictures. But there were about 3 star destroyers this size, with a host of other micromachine ships.

I have a couple of 16" blockade runners found on ebay. Not done a game with them yet but that's more a fighter based game. I too have been thinking about the very same thing. You can get 1/2256 scale star wars ships that are about 12" long and I have a 13" Battlestar I intend to use for large size ship games. Its still not glued together. I am working on the rules at the moment but have only used small classes of ships so far. If it makes it to the full size project I will post here about it.

You could use the Alien space rules , Star fleet battle manual ( Lou zocchi ) . We always wanted to use lage ships for big floor action . The game originally was designed to play on a floor . The ship had a circle gradiant . you picked your angle of fire and set a string if the string touched your ship a hit .

Looks similar to the ones Sci-Fi Supply, makers of wild walls, did for GenCon in the mid-90s. I recall even bigger SD's, though.

I know they were out of FL, but don't recall any names.

Still hoping to do the stakes-in-the-ground FT this spring in the local park, though, you've got to worry about somebody stickin' a point through a foot.

Had a similar idea, only the 'below water' would have plenty of nasties, and small islands would slope sharply to the floor. Big thoughts, few actions…

There was a attack wing game with large ships at a con.

Inari7 I played in John's third game of that in Orlando about 18 years ago or so! I was the first person to take out the Star Destroyer (rammed it with my Nebula B)!

I played in one of John's games when it was run in Gainesville one year at a smaller Con. The only issue is that the game just dragged on and on. It took forever to close with Star Destroyers. I think after 4 hours, I made a single pass of one of the Star Destroyers with my wing of fighters and barely scratched the surface.

I don't have a 5' Star Destroyer yet, but I do play with a lot of the micro-machine fighters and smaller capital ships such as the Rebel Transport and Corellian Corvette which are about 10" long. I am working on building a larger scaled Star Destroyer and a Nebulon-B soon. I use my own custom rules called "Rebellion in Space" and plays like the movie.

I also do the same thing, but in the BSG universe. My Battlestar Galactica is about 16" long, and the other ships in the 'ragtag fleet' are in scale with the Galactica. The fighters are larger than they should be (about 1" long), but I put out lots of them. I use my own custom rules called "Vipers in Space" and plays like the movie.
