Is Bakolas associated with any particular town? My impression from a visit to Greece is that many towns have their local hero.

I will try and research that, I believe he was Capitan of the Rumelian contingent of Greeks at Peta in 1822..Read Gordons account of the battle and lead up to it, contained in Vol 1 of his history of the GWI

From what I can establish he came from Radovitsi whch is now known as Rodochorion

OK. Indeed and was unle of george karaiskakis. What is known of him is as following:
He was an epirot warlord (armatolos). At the age of 70, he fought in the early battles of GWI with distinction. The government promoted him to the rank of hiliarhos (= leader of the 1000, something like colonel). Alexander Mavrokordatos (a politician) decided to proclaim himself as a General and took the regulars to battle the tuks, finally at Peta. Among the local irregular units was the contingent of Bakolas. Mavrokordatos placed the regulars in open field to confront a much larger army. Bakolas (and a couple others) asked Mavrokordatos to raise tambouria (local Word for defensive walls) but Mavrokordatos refused and order the irregular units to cover up flanks and rear.

After the disastrous defeat at Peta, Mavrokordatos accused Bakolas for treachery, since some enemies found in the rear of the army , and this led to defeat. (At school I learned that Bakolas left the field with his contingent and thus the passage was unguarded etc), so eversince Bakola was a traitor…

In fact I was quite surprised when you asked about him, since was not from main characters of GWI.

My reason for asking was when I get round to sponsoring some sculps I want to ensure all the captains that were at Peta are covered, most of the others I found had paintings readily available, however Gogos was the one I could not find.

Sadly, he doesn't sound like the sort of local hero for whom people would have raised a monument with a statue.
