Italian forces arrest Veneto separatists over alleged plot to attack Venice

link

Yes, we have a relevant quote of jerks in our country….

Does this mean Russia will invade Italy also?

GeoffQRF02 Apr 2014 12:57 p.m. PST

Well… Venice did vote for independence: link

Which has now turned to violence, including a 'tank': link

HistoryPhD02 Apr 2014 2:23 p.m. PST

Looks suspiciously like a bulldozer

Altefritz02 Apr 2014 2:35 p.m. PST

It is a bulldozer. Anything in my country turns out to be a farce….and btw the so-called "Independence Referendum" was a sort of well-presented Internet Hoax. Anyway, I think in European terms, so if they want to come alone, let them go out the door…sooner or later they shall go back by the window. Now, could we start to talk about more serious issues, like the color of Prussian grenadiers underpants?

GeoffQRF02 Apr 2014 2:43 p.m. PST

Prussian Blue, surely?

Altefritz02 Apr 2014 3:57 p.m. PST

Of course….

Mako1102 Apr 2014 4:37 p.m. PST

Isn't it a moot point anyway, since I've heard it's sinking into the sea?

Perhaps if the secession is successful, that will save Italy from the expense of having to try to save it.

Then again, perhaps the news reports are overblown.

Zargon02 Apr 2014 4:44 p.m. PST

What no independence for Alabama? As for Prussian Grenadier underware , the colour grime comes to mind, but I don't think you can get it in acrylic :)
But if the Venitians want to be free. Why not? ( All was OK for the breakup and swallowing of various parts of Yugoslavia for the EU and the US so why not the opposite)
Is it right to take their taxes and Bleeped text it away so that they don't benefit from it.
What happened to the big 'Don't Tread On Me' Americans are so fond of. I'm against the Scots leaving, but its their choice and so are the consequences as its is for any people who would wish it. Why is there. Such a myopic thought process going on at the moment over peoples choices for autonomy or fellowship to other countries that are not on the 'list' of acceptance by the west, hasn't there been enough interference in others affairs by so called freedom loving entities who have done more harm than good.
Finally and if they do get there freedom, you got to admit their army will definitely have some great uniforms . Cheers

I share your sentiments, Zargon.

I say let Venice go. With global warming it will be under water in 50 years any way.

macedon03 Apr 2014 2:37 p.m. PST

I thought Milan and Lombardy was the industrial and economic hub of of Italy.

Would South Tyrol be more likely to separate in a hypothetical alternate universe?

Zargon03 Apr 2014 4:04 p.m. PST

Historical Italy was a bunch of states until old Redshirt Garibaldi decided on unification. So why not now? All I've ever known about Italy in modern history is how many non functioning government she has had, the separate entities of the Italian peninsula are a lot more prouder and have more moxy than the united Italy ever had IMO.
