Hey all, here are some various pictures of 6mm WWII armor I've painted over the past weeks and months. Drop me a PM or email me at NathanielRion(at)gmail(dot)com if you're interested in my services. Thanks for looking!

I'm not sure if it's your lighting or the actual colors, but I think you would find that your 6mm figures and vehicles would stand out more and be more attractive if they contrasted significantly more with their bases. Another suggestion would be to dry brush the 6mm vehicles with a light tan/dust color since this is an easy way to highlight details and to bring out the shape of the vehicle to cut down for the tendency of 6mm vehicles to look like small green and tan blobs. The "dust" dry brushing works especially well if you use relatively deep/intense base colors ont he vehicles to again enhance the contrast.

Looks like a good game.

Good looking game.

Who is the manufacturer of the AFVs and figs?

How did you make your hedges?

Again, nicely done.

Batesmotel34- wasn't the idea of camouflage paint and uniform to prevent vehicle/ man showing up against the background :-)
From a purely artistic viewpoint, you are, of course correct and I certainly dry brush for exactly the reasons you point out.

Thanks for the comments!

@Desert Fox: My hedges are super simple. I use popsicle sticks, edges beveled with an x-acto and then painted a natural brown. I glue to that small clumps of Woodland Scenics foliage. For bocage, I plan to use a similar process, adding a few trees and probably making the hedges higher. The AFVs and infantry are mostly Heroics and Ros; I believe that the German halftracks are GHQ (possibly CinC; not sure, got them off eBay.)

@Batesmotel: Thanks for the constructive criticism. I would like to say that no, the camera is throwing off my colors, but I tweaked the pics to match my colors as closely as possible. I do think that, in person, the models "pop" well off the table; I painted light brown bases because I game on green mats, so the models will be more obvious.

I, personally, am not a fan of the dusty-drybrush approach to microarmor. The hard-edge highlighting it produces isn't to my taste. I know that it is how a lot of people like to paint their microarmor, and that's great---a painted mini is a good mini, after all. Not my thing, though.

But, again, I appreciate the constructive criticism---thanks for taking the time to comment!

What game were you playing?

Personally, I'd rather havee the bases blend in with the table covering rather than stand out since the bases are mainly artifacts that hurt the overall visual appeal of the game. So figures that stand out from the bases while the basestend to disappear is my preference for all scxales. ( The pictures in the original version of Tactics with beautifully painted figures in very nice terrain were ruined for me by the thick bases with unpainted bevelled edges that were used. Each stand looked like a group of stajtues on a pedestal!)

6mm is soooo tiny!

Grignotage04 Apr 2014 2:08 p.m. PST

@Striker: I was playing a game of Battlegroup Kursk. I've found that the game plays very well with 6mm models with no need for modification, other than that I play it at "half-inch scale" (6 real inches equal 12 game inches) to suit my small available gaming space. I also track infantry casualties with markers (the totally rockin' and not at all immature red plastic skulls).
