What's your secret to getting the magnets to line up with the proper polarity?

Put two together. Paint the non-touching side of each with a dot of paint.

Yes, I agree- that works…

Although, I have a NEW method that works for *most* but not all turrets- tiny metal washers! Glue one to the turret side, then put the magnet in the body of the tank- it's perfect! no more polarity issues, and your magnets go twice as far.

Caution, however, some tanks, especially older ones or smaller turrets do not have enough space for the washer.

Best of luck,

A jig. I make one tank up with the magnets facing the proper direction, then take the magnets apart and put a small piece of ziploc bag between them and glue everything back together.

Once the first tank dries (give it a couple hours), I have 2 jigs to get the magnetic polarity correct. So I put another piece of ziploc bag between the magnets, and glue the magnet to either the tank hull or the turret (whichever is not the jig), and let that glue set up. Now you have 4 jigs to use…

You can knock out a whole squadron of Cruiser tanks in about 6 hours that way

Use wrong polarity to check while the glue is drying:

Obviously, disaster happens if you, say, stick a turret on the hull to check: the wet glue releases and the magnet comes flying out. And may glue itself to the check magnet.

But you can push two hulls top-to-top near each other to feel for the repulsion. Just keep one reference tank at hand and check that the hulls repel each other. Similar for turrets: push them bottom to bottom.

Or just use 1 magnet and a small steel washer.

+1 on the washer.

Or a nail head. Nail heads do not care what the magnet polarity is and are easier to sink into resin.
