I recently completed a squadron of Pirate Wargalleys for the growing Man o' War collection.

My Pirates now have three squadrons of wargalleys to take on the forces of the Empire or the Dwarves. In fleet actions against the Imperial fleet, the Pirates normally ally themselves with the Bretonnians -- at least until I can find a few more Bretonnian models to add to the fleet.

I hope you enjoy the photos -- the model Pirate ships were a lot of fun to paint.

Nice work on those, including the sea bases. Good to see some MoW on the tabletop.

Have to dig out my MoW. Yours are inspiring and I love the sinking ship marker.

Very nice indeed!

Thanks for the encouraging feedback!

I cannot understand why this game never made it big. I think it has a lot going for it.

Lack of availability. It was only available for a year back in '93-'94, and then pulled from the shelves. You could still get the ships from the bits service until the mid-'00s, but without readily available rules, people who wanted to get into the game were stuck with the second-hand market for the game itself.

About 10 years ago, a lot of fans of the game were hoping for a hardback release of the rules, as was done for Necromunda (more than once, in fact). But no luck.

Back when it was available, I built many fleets from scratch instead of paying GW$$$$.

Basswood hulls and sheet styrene sails, sculpy Dark Elves and Monsters. Party Store little steam boats converted for Dwarves….

Need to pull those out and play again, it's been a few years since they're last outing.

miniMo -- Party Store little steam boats; I'll have to check that out. Always looking for inexpensive bits for conversions and sinking-ship markers.

There's a nice Yahoo Group: ManOWarGame: link

Photo folder with pix of some of my fleets: link

And a File doc with notes on construction: link

I'm one of the mods for the Yahoo group, and, yeah, I highly recommend it. There's also the primary group, The Sea of Claws: link and a backup group, manowargameArchive: link

In addition to the things miniMo listed, there are suggestions for proxy ships, hundreds of photos of ships and battles, scenarios, house rules, scans of the White Dwarf MoW articles, and on and on.

I encourage anyone with even a passing interest in MoW to join all three.
