What's a good way to do that? |

Paint a front and a back, then join them up. Rather than try to paint a single continuous spiral (that never seems to work) Phil |

Paint the whole lance the lighter colour. Then cut a suitable length and width of masking tape (Tamiya version for instance is very good) then wrap the tape around the lance, rotating the lance as you go. Then paint all of it with the appropriate darker colour. Remove tape and touch up any bits of overlap. |

There is a machine that is basically a turn table. Set it to a low speed and hold the brush steady while the model is turning moving it upwards or downwards as you go. |

I find that although you can't see the figure with their stealth paint the paint absorbs light and actually heats up. Players with infrared goggles see the figure a mile off. |

I was painting Austrian flagpoles, spiral white, red and black. I painted them white first. Then I took a black felt pen first and did a spiral, by twisting slowly in my fingers. Then I painted the red, touching up with white again. This seemed to work. |

The tape idea sounds like what I'd try first. |

One of our locals has had great success with the tape technique. His stuff looks terrific. |

I don't like masking tape. I have tried to paint spirals using a "lathe" method. Slowly twirl the lance by the handle as you slowly move the brush up the shaft. Sometimes it works! From: TMP link :) |

1mm masking tape from Tamiya. Base coat in one colour, tape, spray varnish, paint, remove |

What about a decal? I've seen model railroad strip decals that come in in a variety of colors and thickness. Used them when I would paint the nose cones of aircraft and model rockets
works like a champ. Haven't tried on a 25/28mm model. Good luck. P. |

Just don't do it. I want my knights to look intimidating, not festive. |

I use a variation YesthatPhil's method. I paint a series of evenly spaced diagonals on one side then do a quarter turn and do another set of diagonals. Repeat that twice more and you end up with a spiral. It works pretty well on 15mm figures but I'm not sure it would be so good on larger ones where variations in the width of the stripe would be more noticeable. |
