"Dear Editor: Power without responsibility" Topic

Sir,

I understand that a post on wargaming The Algerian War and/or "The Troubles" has been nuked, without explanation.

Is that wise not to provide your reasons. How are we supposed to grow if no one is teaching us (me). What is the reason behind your decision?

Well I suspect it is because of the potential for a flame war, not because of the Algerian War but "The Troubles."

We, unfortunately, have on theses boards certain supporters of Sinn Féin/IRA who are not afraid to voice their support for those terrorists. These include one well known 'Merkin rules writer.

We also have people who fought those terrorists in the Troubles or who were innocent victims of those people. I was also almost caught in two bombings whilst working in The City, (The Baltic Exchange and Victoria Station).

It becomes more than "potential" when you instantly start typing a reply like that.

I thought the rules allowed for the discussion of periods and incidents over 10 years old.

Something change or am I mistaken?

It can easily stray into politics, which is a forbidden topic.

The Algerian/Troubles thread started out as a legitimate question about how to game the conflicts. Did it go off the rails before it got nuked, or was it a preventative strike?

Otto Schmidt's latest exhibition of poor taste (making a game of the Malaysian air disaster) was nuked, but not before he made one of the most openly bigoted statements I've seen on TMP in years. His DH punishment was a brutal…zero days.

And, there is currently a very irreverent discussion about Jesus as an army leader when a few weeks ago someone was DH'd, on grounds of religious sensitivity, for exclaiming "Christ on a crutch".

So, pretty much TMP SOP.

My sin as seen through the eyes of the peoples executive was to write (paraphrasing) "Judeo Christian deities on a multiple and various velocipedes" it was apparently blasphemous. The thread in which it occurred was questioning the arbitrary nature of DHing, of some note the DHing was followed by many and various religious comments of equal weight (such as your repeating it above) by those that questioned the act itself thus bringing sharply into focus the whole idea of the DH. Of course it also bought into sharp focus how easily led editors with English as a second language who do not have the same cultural experience/reference as the forum community as a whole can be easily led, or maybe some other point was the goal.

Even more reason why he should take great care with it. The lickspittles and psychophants cant pay the bills alone.

The only thing anyone needs to remember before submitting a post on TMP is that there are rules which MAY be enforced. They aren't always enforced, sometimes they seem overly enforced. However, that doesn't change the fact that it is there, and potentially waiting for you should you break a rule. I said this before and I'll repeat it here:

Don't break the rules and you have NOTHING to worry about.

That's it in a nutshell. Questioning Bill and his application of the The Rules will get you nowhere, and accomplish nothing. in that regard, OFM is correct. He has no reason to answer to you or anyone else who questions his methods. It is what it is. Again:
