It seems US Marines in training with Korean Marines use live ammo. What are the brown explosions in picture. The rings are clearly throwing fragments out. link Thanks |

One news site had pics of these airbursts, without showing the amphibious vehicles, along with the headline that North and South Korea were exchanging fire. The pic you link too says they are "throwing smoke" but those are obviously fragments hitting the water. If smoke I would expect white and cannot say I have ever seen brown. And if smoke rounds why all the shrapnel? |

Those are smoke grenades fired from the dischargers on top of the vehicle. |

Vehicle smoke grenades splatter out a significant number of burning chunks of *brown* phosphorus. Throws them out into a nice flat pattern, actually. |

That's how they looked to me, too! Anyone know for sure whose photos those are? I'd suspect they're courtesy of the NorKo's. |

They showed video of the explosions on CNN this morning, so I strongly doubt they are photoshopped. Just looked like smoke to me. |

Just a very high-res camera. A lot of people cry "photoshop" when they see something with better resolution than their TV or cellphone, and I know there ARE a lot of photoshopped pics about, but this is not one of them. |

They are pictures of a joint Korea and US Marine exercise. Taken with a very fast and high in camera. You can see the fragments hit the water and that is what threw me. |
