As a bit of a warm up for our Battle of Keren game at Salute in a couple of weeks James and I put on a Battle of Gallabat game at the Cannon show in Retford yesterday.

This battle was one of the initial actions in the 1940/1 East Africa campaign and saw Slims 10th Indian Infantry Brigade attempting to evict Italians and Askaris from their fort.

We played it out using I Ain't Been Shot Mum and managed to get a very historical result over the course of the day.

We also won the Best in Show trophy so that was rather nice!

More commentary over on the blog along with a veritable feast of photographs.

Very well presented game, interesting subject matter, lovely models – pleased to see it in the flesh and see it got recognised too.

And the Wellesley :-) Brilliant :-)

Always liked the East African air campaigns – the Fairey Battle is an upgrade in 1941 :-)

Awesome as always! Almost finished with my Askari platoon, 2 squads, command section, mmg team done. Need 1 more squad, and the Askari mini mountain guns. Started on my Berslageiri platoon with 1 squad done and another ready to paint. Also regular troops with 2 squads ready to paint, along with command section and mmg team. Thanks again for inspiration as it was your pics that made me want to do this and learn about this campaign and part of the war i didn't know about.

Magnificent stuff there.

I wish I could do so well as that. Beautiful figures.

It's awesome that you've got the Lancia! I'm a big East Africa geek.

I often hear gamers discuss making a game table worth playing on. This one certainly is. It's clear you put a lot of time and effort into the game. Well done.

Cheers chaps.
Happy to have given some inspiration cappa.
James has another load of photographs, I'll try to do another report when I get a copy of those.
