Illustrations from the Harley Psalter, England, early 11th century Harley Psalter, f2r, Psalm 2 Harley Psalter, f4r, Psalm 7 Harley Psalter, f12r, Psalm 19 Harley Psalter, f65v, Psalm 123 Harley Psalter, f69r, Psalm 133 Harley Psalter, f73v, David and Goliath Although the psalter was illustrated in England it was copied from the Utrecht Psalter which was brought to England c.1000 so it does not necessarily show Anglo-Saxon costume. Nevertheless, the Goliath figure has often been used to illustrate an Anglo-Saxon armoured warrior.

A weird mix of old and new, the kite shields being new , the rest of it being copied and recopied fro Late Antique and Carolingian originals. The bows , for example are unlikely to relate to anything in Anglo Saxon England
.and the two headed axe? where is that from. |

Same artist throughout. Fond of short-hafted, double-headed axes all right. In Psalm 133, I find the mixture of stirrups, bareback and lacking stirrups interesting
