Just a heads up, the 'daily deal' at Miniatures Market is the (1:72-20mm scale) Arcane Legions starter box, with 120 minis (Roman, Han Chinese, & Egyptian) for a paltry five bucks.

The game is historical w/ some fantasy elements, though I think the minotaurs and sphinxes and whatnot are to be found in the expansions. I have some I picked up a while back somewhere(cheap, but not this cheap), and IIR, they are on par with the soft plastics of most 1:72 minis. They have pegs on the bases so they plug into the hard plastic movement trays, but they can be easily snipped off. The rules have some interesting mechanics too, if you're interested in giving it a try. Though I never actually played.

So, whether you are into the scale or not, this is practically giving it away. MM are always a pleasure to deal with.

The miniature feel real cheap and they are not any way usable in a Historical game. There is a reason why they are selling them so cheap.

I bought a couple boxes for starting up a historical fantasy campaign of Armies of Arcana.

Karnophage, I feel that they are passable in a market that is dominated by other soft plastic miniatures. I have tried my hand at painting 1:72, and did not care for them, but to each his own.

Considering I posted this on the CMG/toy gaming board, where people game with little things which likely won't qualify as showpieces no matter how well painted, often with children, I felt this qualified as good news.

And I fear that many might disagree that they "…are not any way usable in a Historical game"(sic).

I think they'd be great for some fantasy based armies--especially the Egyptians. I don't think anyone is buying these to game historical battles.

I bought a box to paint up as animated terracotta warrior statues for IHMN. They do the trick and although smaller than 28mm, that is ok, because the statues are shorter.

The Roman army figures are fairly simplistic, but not bad as such. They have good proportions. The Roman archers are the only Western style archers in plastic available. (Eastern style Roman archers can be had from 2 or 3 manufacturers.) I'm using the Mongol horse archers for Hunnic army; fur hats and felt boots have been around for a long time. So there is some utility in these sets for historical armies.
