Here's my take on the new Naps by Warlord

Thanks for the interesting review! Might the excess standard bearers be useful either for assorted wounded conversions, or for subsitute colours for British units having the same facings?

Thanks for the informative report on Warlord's new Brits. I have not received mine yet, so your report was timely for me. I only ordered one box to test the waters (ordered other stuff though e.g. the rocket frame and other command sets).

I think my only disappointment is likely to be that they are in oilskin covered shakos. My understanding is uncovered shakos heads are not available. Is this correct?

Lord Hill30 Mar 2014 8:36 a.m. PST

Your Grace, I think you are correct and only covered shakos are available (I'm still waiting for my 1815 set too, s not entirely sure).
If you would like to try adding Victrix (uncovered) shakos I can send you some of my spares if you like. Just send me a PM But as I mention on the blog – this will mean cutting off and gluing on all those collars!

Skeptic, yes you're right too – I have tried using all the excess standard bearers, drummers and pipers (FOUR pipers per box of Victrix Highlanders??!!! I have enough for the largest Edinburgh Tattoo ever seen)as casualties and so on. But I've still got hundreds of spares if anyone needs any.

You might consider using those surplus models with stovepipe shakos as Hanoverians or Prussian reservists.

Hello Lord Hill,

Another good review and update on where you're at with your project!

I've been following your blog a fair bit over the past years since I'm a big fan of the British in the Napoleonic Wars, however, my main interest is in Wellington's Peninsular Army, I'm in the process of recreating it, every battalion that served (Portuguese as well as British) in 28mm, although not quite one for one, my battalions are 25 – 32 figures in size on average (not including additional deployed light company bases).

Anyhow, I wonder if you'd be interested in selling me that Peninsular officer (unpainted) or indeed if you'd like me to do you a swap? My stuff is all metal (hence I don't really want to buy the plastic Warlord box set just to get 1 or 2 metal figures) and of course mine is mainly Peninsula stuff although I'm sure I do have a few Metal Foundry (Perry designed) Brits lying around in Belgic shako I could exchange / send you if you like, to use for your project.

Let me know either way, I tried emailing your Stapleton Cotton email address from your blog but it doesn't work (returned email).

Kind Regards
Mike

Hi Mike, that's odd about my email – maybe try stapletoncotton1815@gmail.com

I'd be happy to swap the officer for any Perry Belgic shako figure.
I can send you the drummer, sapper and standard bearers too if you like – send me your address to the email above

And if anyone else needs any plastic British infantry spares,(arms, heads, drums, etc) I'm always happy to help out.

Thanks M'Lud – useful review!

M'Lud, how very gracious and kind of you but I will respectfully decline. Far too fiddly for me and my thick digits.

I shall use this battalion (oilskin covered shakos) to provide a little variety for my War of 1812 collection.

Again my thanks.

Nice.

Regarding the backpacks …. is it copying, if thats what they actually wore then thats what they wore and if sculptors are doing their job/getting the scale right they equipment SHOULD look the same across different ranges.

"Regarding the backpacks…..if sculptors are doing their job/getting the scale right they equipment SHOULD look the same across different ranges."

There speaks someone who hasn't compared the Trotter packs in the Victrix and Perry packs with one another – totally incompatible. Their respective French packs work really well though.
