Looks lovely Sho, looks just like an AB commander. Possibly even better? Very smooth sculpt. A big 18mm? Looks great! How many to go? |
Sho Boki | 20 Aug 2014 4:16 a.m. PST |
Thanks, Paul! All as sceduled – sets by 6 figures, first set are allready on sale, this fellows belongs to second set of infantry generals. Ermolov will be next.
|
paulalba | 20 Aug 2014 5:46 a.m. PST |
Ok Sho, As long as you don't need a quick input of cash I'll hold off till there are more to put in the packet. Did you try your Russian infantry in the new caster? I plan to buy another couple of battalions. |
paulalba | 20 Aug 2014 5:47 a.m. PST |
Especially as they are probably the most accurate Russians for 1812 in 18mm scale! |
von Winterfeldt | 20 Aug 2014 7:15 a.m. PST |
I believe it wil encourage Sho it he sees some order, I will place mine in due course to support the project. |
paulalba | 20 Aug 2014 7:55 a.m. PST |
Totally agree von winterfeldt, I just need to sort out a big enough order that is worthwhile for myself to get it shipped over to scotland. That's why I asked about the additional infantry battalions. |
Sho Boki | 20 Aug 2014 10:37 a.m. PST |
Thanks guys! And don't forget, as Gold Clients, to name the free wanted bonus figure every time when ordered. Otherwise I add some random surprice figure. I am covered with cash until November, then I live entirely on selling my figures. Right now I prepare Russian Infantry mould and 6mm masters mould. Generals spincast moulds takes me week for preparing, so I presume, that spincasted infantry with command will be on sale on the middle of next week. |
paulalba | 20 Aug 2014 10:46 a.m. PST |
Ok Sho we can work out the best idea of package as the infantry comes out of the mould. |
von Winterfeldt | 20 Aug 2014 1:40 p.m. PST |
@sho Hopefully it will work – you run a very tight scheme – good luck and happy sculpting |
paulalba | 21 Aug 2014 2:32 a.m. PST |
Hello Sho, Been looking over your Russian main commanders. I know for your rule set you don't plan to represent colonels, majors adjutants etc. however as you seem to be making future additions to your range. would you consider doing a range of 3 or 4 lesser command figures to add along side your big named guys similar to what Mr Barton did for his French range. As much as I love your big name guys it would be very useful to add Adjutants and low level guys to the mix. Cheers Paul |
paulalba | 21 Aug 2014 2:47 a.m. PST |
Also as I would only need 1 of each of the big named characters for 1:20 I (and I would guess some of the other 18mm gamer) would need a good few sets of any hangers on you would produce. Cheers Paul |
Sho Boki | 21 Aug 2014 3:23 a.m. PST |
Don't worry, Paul. As making figures is my main work and not only hobby now, then there will be plenty of lesser nameless commanders and ADC after personalities too. At least one 6 figures mounted set will be. In infantry command there allready are 3 new officers with surtout. Old Towarzcys are sold out. I pick the better casts out for von Winterfeldt and send other back to melting pot because the difference between gravity casting and spincasting quality is amazing. Gravity casting is gamble business and may lose some details. |
paulalba | 21 Aug 2014 4:58 a.m. PST |
That's great to hear Sho, yes I had spotted the long coated foot command. Hopefully not to long to wait for the lower rank mounted command figures as I think they would be good sellers? I take it you plan jäger, grenadiers, artillery crews with the old kiwer in 1812 uniform similar to Perry miniatures did? |
paulalba | 21 Aug 2014 5:18 a.m. PST |
Also good luck with the production as a business! I don't know if I forgot this was what you were doing or didn't spot it on the earlier threads? The 6mm figs look superb to for the tiny size. look forward to your future releases and will support where possible. Cheers Paul |
von Winterfeldt | 25 Aug 2014 2:06 a.m. PST |
I received my ordered figures today. They are great, full of character, excellently cast (no flash) – also ordering via Sho is very easy – great communication, I payed with SEPA – quick delivery (less than one week) – excellent packing, in short – first class service. I am looking forward for the development of Sho's figures, 10 out of 10 points in quality of sculpting, casting, packing, communication. |
Sho Boki | 25 Aug 2014 4:00 a.m. PST |
Thanks, von Winterfeldt! :-) I hope, that you don't more suggest to outscore the moulding and casting processes? ;-) I want have all producing processes under my control. Generals are not cleaned, they are as is they come from spincasting mould. But old gravity casted Towarzcys are totally cleaned from flash and bubbles. _____ Paul, actually I don't separate the three branches of infantry. Its because without colors there are only one visuable difference on figures – ammunition box badge. Grenadiers wears plumes (sultan), but may not wear, in Germany there are only one soldier per regiment, who have (save) his plume. I added easily removable plumes for taller privateers and to all command figures. Grenadiers three flames grenade on shako are invisible, cords cover the side flames. So shako is for everybody the same. On cartridge box grenadiers wear grenade with three flames and musketeers with one flame. Jägers wear only number. This tiny grenades or flames may be easily removed by scalpel. Or just leave without painting. For jägers there may be one more difference.. they may not wear small swords (tessak) at all (after 1812) or alternatively wear his old swords. When I sculpt firing jägers, then they will have his old swords. ____ I made a trip to our capital and purchase the precision weight (0.01gr), last piece of my production machinery. Now I can not to worry about exact amount of hardener for mould silicone. First halfs of infantry moulds are ready, second halfs to do and casting may begin.

von Winterfeldt | 25 Aug 2014 4:57 a.m. PST |
"I hope, that you don't more suggest to outscore the moulding and casting processes? ;-)" Certainly not for quality reasons – even the sabre guards come out very nicely with very good definition and no flash. My only concern is – that moulding and casting will cost you too much time – which you could use on sculpting, but you are your own boss and you must decide for yourself. |
paulalba | 25 Aug 2014 8:42 a.m. PST |
No problem Sho, all sounds good. Yeah I remember the slight differences, I'll maybe add the plume to the grenadiers so they look different in my collection. |
Redcurrant | 26 Aug 2014 11:23 a.m. PST |
Hi Sho, What is a 'Gold client', and free wanted bonus figure? Personalities are looking very good, I will order some shortly. Regards Steve J |
von Winterfeldt | 26 Aug 2014 11:36 a.m. PST |
I just chose some Ab heavy cavalry horses and placed the Russian generals on top of them, very nice fit as well, they look great, I will also do one or two Murats. I realize now what huge amount of research Sho did for sculpting the figures – including the dress they did wear or did wear even for Borodino. I have no problems with Murat but it would be a good idea if Sho could put up on his home page some illustrations which he used for research for his Russian generals, otherwise I might paint some of them wrongly, which would be painfull there they are so nicely sculpted and well researched. The character of those figures are incredible – the facial impression stunning. |
Sho Boki | 26 Aug 2014 10:36 p.m. PST |
Steve, this mean, that you may with every order name one additional figure from any set and if I have this figure on stock at moment – you get this free, as gift or bonus. If you don't name any figure, I add to your packet some random surprice figure. Von Winterfeldt, on page 2 here are photo of some painted generals. You cannot paint wrong, all wear at least dark green army uniforms with red collar, cuffs and turnbacks. If they wear parade/general uniform, then collar, cuffs and cuff flaps have gold embroidery. Orden sash over the left shoulder are red (Nevski). Only Bennigsen have sky blue Orden sash over the right shoulder and old yellowish white plumes on hat. And research about dress for Borodino are done not by me, I used the works of historians. In addition I only calculated, what decorations they have on Borodino. Moulds for infantry are ready and first casts are done. Now I must do some photos and in our evening they will be on sale.

von Winterfeldt | 27 Aug 2014 3:17 a.m. PST |
@Sho Boki I am not so much worried about the regular uniform, but in case you would not have told me that Ostermann – Tolstoi did wear a sort of black cloak made of felt, I would have painted a grey one |
Sho Boki | 27 Aug 2014 3:39 a.m. PST |
If dark grey, then probably all is OK. Eyewitness don't recognize the correct item of clothing.. burka or overcoat. Consequently this was dark item and not a brown fur burka – what remains for us black felt burka or overcoat. Many other generals already wears overcoats, so I decided to sculpt burka. |

Sho Boki | 27 Sep 2014 2:31 a.m. PST |
Thanks! It takes me long time.. now I must finish sculpting his boots and Ermolov are ready. Last 3 generals on 2.set already have his faces. |
von Winterfeldt | 27 Sep 2014 3:21 a.m. PST |
I agree – looking great, so Ermolov did wear a special coat with fur? A question to Baggavout – you sculpted a cloth saddle cloth and not the usual fur general saddle cloth, yet I cannot detect aiguilettes / shoulder cords – as for Flügel or General Adjutants – so what colour should this saddle cloth of Baggavout have? |
Sho Boki | 27 Sep 2014 5:37 a.m. PST |
As I say, almost all personage generals may used as ordinary generals. Baggovout (or nameless general) may have lost his horse and use some from subordinates. I think, that one of such heroic general must be in line. Saddle cloth then may be red or dark green. High generals may wear overcoats with fur. Ermolov show after Borodino to others, how bullet goes through his overcoat and surtout neck.

Now he looks absolutely lovely! |
Sho Boki | 01 Oct 2014 8:38 a.m. PST |
First 3 figs on 2.set are, as you say Paul, "big 18mm". Next 3 I try to do "small 18mm" for you. Two two of them in overcoat. We don't have knowledge, how the next generals were dressed, so now I just try to cover every possibilities. |
paulalba | 01 Oct 2014 9:09 a.m. PST |
I look forward to them Sho. |
Redcurrant | 18 Oct 2014 7:33 a.m. PST |
How are the rest of the generals on the workbench progressing? |
von Winterfeldt | 19 Oct 2014 6:24 a.m. PST |
just finished painting them and sent some photos to Sho, they are smashing, a treat to paint and full of character, I hope my painting did them justice – congratultaions to Sho, keep this quality. |

Hi Sho How are things going with the last 3 generals for the 2nd mounted command set? |
Sho Boki | 10 Nov 2014 5:28 a.m. PST |
Generals (and infantry in greatcoats) waited when 6mm mouldmaking finished. I have only one pair of plates for casting and mouldmaking. |
