New generals in metal. Primed with grey.

Murvihill | 12 Jun 2014 9:20 a.m. PST |
Shouldn't Barclay and Bagration be at fisticuffs? I thought they weren't fond of each other
|
Sho Boki | 12 Jun 2014 9:27 a.m. PST |
You are right. They don't like each other.. |
paulalba | 12 Jun 2014 3:25 p.m. PST |
Very nice sho, the faces of figures 1 and 3 look excellent. Don't fancy trying to paint the specs in no. 2. |

WOW!!!! Now you've sold those. |
paulalba | 15 Jun 2014 1:39 p.m. PST |
Yeah they look great sho!!! Even the chap with specs came out great. I don't think I would be able to do him as nice as that tho? Well done! |
Redcurrant | 15 Jun 2014 3:55 p.m. PST |
They are extremely good – I look forward to seeing the rest of the Russians and then placing an order. I can see my Russians having lots of Generals. Steve J |
Sho Boki | 15 Jun 2014 11:10 p.m. PST |
Thanks! :-) Paul, the chap with glasses are the easiest to paint. |
paulalba | 16 Jun 2014 5:44 a.m. PST |
Ok sho I'll take you word for it! ;0) |
TelesticWarrior | 16 Jun 2014 5:47 a.m. PST |
If I could make some constructive criticism? I would say that the only weakness is that the legs of the dis-mounted figures are dis-proportionately short compared to the upper body. I noticed this with some of your 6mm casts and just assumed that this was a common feature at that scale, but your dis-mounted 15mm guys seem to have the same problem, including Kutuzov and his female "friend". Other than that your modelling skills are generally excellent. I would definitely buy your mounted chaps, and the dismounted ones too if you could lengthen their legs a bit. |
Sho Boki | 16 Jun 2014 6:17 a.m. PST |
All criticism are welcome. I have done only 32 napoleonic sculpts in 15(18)mm for today. Big heads and short legs are the main problem. Rounded corners instead of sharp ones are the second problem. |
Sho Boki | 20 Jun 2014 3:10 a.m. PST |
My first animal for mounting generals. Does this look like as horse head?
|
Eclipsing Binaries | 21 Jun 2014 2:49 a.m. PST |
It looks like a very good horse head, but its also a bit scary and evil looking. Maybe its a little too cartoon like, if that makes sense. |
Sho Boki | 21 Jun 2014 8:19 a.m. PST |
This will be head for horse doll.. mother of all coming horses.. ;-)
|
paulalba | 21 Jun 2014 10:09 a.m. PST |
Hi sho, your basic shape of the head looks good however I agree with Colin. Your horse face looks like a charging horse. The eyes look to be very large as do the teeth. The bottom lip looks a little unusual the way it hangs down and the nostrils look very inflamed. However all said a million miles better than I could do myself!!! Just trying to be helpful as I'll no doubt be 1 of your future customers. Cheers Paul |
The Emperors Own | 21 Jun 2014 10:11 a.m. PST |
I agree
its scary looking like a zombie horse : ) If I seen this face riding at me I would run But that said
. sho you work is great and love seeing your progress |
von Winterfeldt | 22 Jun 2014 12:05 a.m. PST |
Looks good to me, beware that it is not getting too big – just get one with a "prototype" and then place an AB trooper on it and watch the proportions. Excellent sculpting |
Sho Boki | 22 Jun 2014 5:00 a.m. PST |
Thanks for help! This must be the universal head, for charging poses too. Cut off the details is easier than all the time sculpt new ones. And here is the "prototype" together with AB miniatures. Horses have exactly the same measures..
|
The Emperors Own | 22 Jun 2014 10:02 a.m. PST |
I dont know if you should try to do the same size as AB as they are too small |
von Winterfeldt | 24 Jun 2014 5:18 a.m. PST |
too small, see how far the legs of the trooper suprass the belly of the horse
for me they look ok
Better than the usual dwarfs on elefants frequently seen |
paulalba | 24 Jun 2014 7:27 a.m. PST |
Yes most of the AB horses are a very high standard, as good as any 28mm horses around. |
Eclipsing Binaries | 25 Jun 2014 4:34 p.m. PST |
Sho, if you can do a horse to the same standard as you are doing the other sculpts then they should be good enough. I have nothing but admiration for what you are sculpting and I bet that AB's horses were not right first time. I just wish you were doing Suvarov's Russians for the late 1790's instead of 1812. |
Sho Boki | 28 Jun 2014 6:27 a.m. PST |
"Good enough" is not satisfactory for me.. ;-) At moment cannot say nothing about Suvorov's troops. Mold for buttoned Barclay & Bagration unhappily don't work perfectly. I resculpt this generals again and will made new molds. Barclay lower his left shoulder and get all new buttons and decorations.

Eclipsing Binaries | 30 Jun 2014 11:24 a.m. PST |
Those small changes make a big difference. The figure has a lot more movement now. |
Redcurrant | 13 Jul 2014 2:51 a.m. PST |
Any update on how things are going with the sculting? |
Nadir Shah | 13 Jul 2014 4:07 a.m. PST |
Absolutely delightful work Sho! |
Sho Boki | 15 Jul 2014 5:19 a.m. PST |
Thanks! :-) As I get more and more experienced in sculpting and casting, I little resculpt this figures again and again, to achieve the perfect final casts. I ordered centricast machine and if I calculated well, then I may reduce the cost dramatically. With better moulds and centrifugal pressure, more casts will be successful and there probably will be no more need for handcleaning the figures after casting. I practice sculpting and casting of 6mm figures too. Looks like not bad. But horses comes out badly. I fear, that no horses come out in same time with first set of generals. But I continue to try.. About generals. I have now full set of 6 mounted generals. Unmounted generals will be in separate set, as some people don't need them together with mounted ones. All generals have now newly sculpted uniforms with easily for painting buttons and eating Kutuzov comes with his bench as one piece. The first mounted generals set include Barclay de Tolly, Bagration, Bennigsen, Miloradovich, Baggovout and Ostermann-Tolstoi. I probably get my centricast machine from GB after week or two, then one week for practicing with this new machinery and on first monday of august the generals must be on sale. |

Looking at portraits of Russian generals, sometimes the sash is over the left shoulder, sometimes over the right. Does anybody know the difference? |
Sho Boki | 24 Jul 2014 7:27 a.m. PST |
Are you sure, that this is officer sash and not orden sash? Officers sash over the shoulder was obsoleted in napoleonic, officers allways wear sash on waist. Only Kutuzow wear sash over his shoulder, because he was too fat.. Anna and Nevski orden sashes (red) weared over the left shoulder, all others over the right shoulder. |
Eclipsing Binaries | 24 Jul 2014 12:43 p.m. PST |
Your horse is looking good. Well Done! |
von Winterfeldt | 24 Jul 2014 1:36 p.m. PST |
I agree with Sho Boki about the wearing of Russian sashes he knows his stuff quite well, one of the reaons why his sculpts are so great. |

I don't feel, that this is horse..
|
von Winterfeldt | 26 Jul 2014 8:38 a.m. PST |
doesn't look bad for me – in case the horse is standing – it is maybe that the front legs should be almost in one line and not one too much at the back. Great achievment for the first try. |
Sho Boki | 26 Jul 2014 10:40 a.m. PST |
Now its looks more like horse. Thanks to helpers.
|
von Winterfeldt | 26 Jul 2014 11:42 p.m. PST |
I disagree – I like the first attempt better, by building up the back you increase the sitting height of the horse rider, one has to take into account that material had to be taken away to make a good sit and proportion for the riders, usually the feet did surpass the belly – in case you place a rider on that horse – I fear it will sit too high |
Sho Boki | 30 Jul 2014 4:20 p.m. PST |
Only high back don't like? Allready corrected. Hip-hip-hurreigh! Spincaster from Tiranti reach me. But too late for schedule.. so all things delayed for week. |
Sebastian Palmer | 30 Jul 2014 6:12 p.m. PST |
What a wonderful thread. So fantastic to see these figures developing. I'm definitely going to want some of these. |
Jcfrog | 02 Aug 2014 2:27 a.m. PST |
YES whenever I am back able to play…I will get the whole bunch even pricey. Look out then for well painted ebay Russian generals (being replaced!)in 2D10+1 months. |

Thanks, I try. I restore the SEPA payment too aside to PayPal. First view after spincasting..
|
von Winterfeldt | 10 Aug 2014 10:52 a.m. PST |
great – in case you can still do SEPA – good news for European clients – should I wait some time – as for Towarcys being spin casted as well?? |
Sho Boki | 10 Aug 2014 8:57 p.m. PST |
I'm afraid, that Towarcys will not fit in next (russian infantry) mould.. so its takes long time. But I have enough handcasted Towarcys figures in stock, they are cheaper too now, because all prices goes one third down. |
