Thanks Dragon Gunner. Yeah it depends on what I roll in the Campaign scenarios too. Meaning that on a couple of occasions their forces could have been ambushed where the dervish would have setup 12" from the British. And of course I would customize the terrain for that.
We have had a big battle where the Dervish defended a Zareba and gun emplacements. The British took some casualties there and we will have more of those as they move deeper into southern Sudan.
You may have seen my Kadesh blog? I built a gunboat especially for the dervish to use to harass the British along the river. hmmm, they may need another one. I also received a great idea from Mr. Patrick Wilson for one of my river scenarios.
I also purchased the Mahdist Source book from TVAG to get an idea on the mud forts. I also got some great links from Sgt. Guinness so I am looking to build one of those soon.
The next battle has one of our Major's attacking from the rear of the dervish siege line. The Dervish are all rifle armed and they have a gun. They will probably be slow to get the gun turned around early on. The terrain in this one I built for my 15mm Sudan battles and it looks okay. Should be fun.
And again for these small actions it is all about each player contributing to the big picture/story line. But the larger battles are the ones where the setups as you mention will become more important. As they move south the battles are going to get more deadlier and they all expect that.
