After finishing two battalions of French infantry I decided to do a test figure for my 2nd Nassau in Leval German Division.

I think he turned out good and are really easy and fast to paint. Does anyone know what the shako cords are for Nassau fusiliers?

Thank You
Michael

Michael,

Like so many on TMP, you forget to tell us what scale we are looking at! So I concluded that this is 6mm, about which I know very little.

But if that's the case, I'm pretty amazed by this paint job on 6mm.

What figure scale do you use in your units?

MarbotsChasseurs28 Mar 2014 6:20 p.m. PST

Oops sorry about that I figured they look like 6mm. They are Adler French Infantry which will be painted as Nassau troops

I use 1 miniature represent 10 soldiers. So my French are in 12 men companies 4 wide by three deep. Figuring on campaign most battalions would have around 720 men at most. I am not a good 28mm painter I find these are easier to paint actually. They always look good in mass and from a foot a way.

Back to the question I looked online and it seems they had white shako cords indeed. The voltigeurs seem to have yellow or gold? Can anyone give anymore details. I am a stickler for correct uniforms even in 6mm.

Sasha thank you for the great details

I decided to paint my test voltigeurs in in grey trousers and I think I will repaint the first company in grey trousers too. However, the grenadier I will be using the colpack or shako of 1810 instead the Bavarian looking helmet.

Here are some updates.

Update 4 companies down. Finishing up on 4 more grenadiers and the grenadier company will be done. Will have to wait until my next order of adler miniatures to get a standard bearer for this fun to paint regiment.

Grenadiers finished today. Just the company including the Battalion commander and flag bearer left to finish.

Two questions.

1. Where do I get 6mm flags for small German states
2. What do people use for basing material?

Go for steel bases if you can they are stonkingly good, otherwise basetex or similar is good for sticking the strips down as well as filling those fiddly gaps between them all in one go. Have a look at the web site pages on basing might give you some ideas.

The completed unit on the 2nd battalion of 2nd Nassau. Just waiting on the flag and flag bearer I had to make a compromise and will use a Bavarian standard bearer. The first battalion is half way finished.

Michael.
