This week I've painted the 2nd Hussars for Zorndorf. It is one of my favourite SYW uniforms.

Lovely stuff. I've got this unit to do in 15mm at some point. |

Beautiful – I am fond of the 5th, but now that I see how pretty the 2nd is I may have to get out my brushes |

But, I painted the 5th last week – no, really I did.

All this work for Zorndorf, are the Ruesch Hussars complete as well? Cheers, Robert |

thanks guys. timurilank, I'm only doing the Prussian 2nd and 5th Hussars for Zorndorf. I'm not doing the 3rd as I will use the 7th (pre-existing in my collection) as a stand-in due to cost considerations. All told I'll be fielding over 1600 figures for the game (107 still to paint) and I have to protect my wallet and what is left of my storage space somewhere. |

Lovely work, mate- I agree, it is one of the better uniforms of the wars. Which ORBAT are you using for Zorndorf? Both the ones I have (Nafziger and Dangel) show that the 7th were at Zorndorf, not the 3rd- so (depending on ORBAT used) you've actually got the right unit. Cheers. Dal. |

Hi, wounderfully painted, really a very good painting job. The problem is that the cavalry regiment were colour coded in the prussian army. The 2ed regiment had white horses and the 5ed had dun horses. Sorry. |

Hi Dal, OMG, so I have. I've just checked Kronoskaf and they also have the 7th and not the 3rd. For ease of use, I've been using Osprey and Duffy who have the 3rd not 7th. That's it, because I have the 7th not the 3rd, Duffy and Osprey are wrong, it's serendipity. |

Hi Rudy, I know but, I'm representing this unit as a snap shot of part of the 3rd and 4th squadrons within the ten squadrons of the 5th. Sorry, I should have made that clear. |

Glad to have been of help, mate. So where's the piccie of the 7th? Dal. |

somebody once posted a link to the colour of the Prussian hussar horses and I cannot find it. I know they rode horses of of what wa then thought of as "non military",ie black, but I seem to remember there being a bit of variation in each regiment. |

You'll find this information in the Kronoskaf articles on Prussian Hussar rgts. In each article, just below the table depicting the uniform, there is a sentence of this type (example taken from the article on Zieten Husars): "Troopers were armed with a short, curved sabre, two pistols and a carbine. They rode white-grey horses." Hope this helps, Richard C. |

I knew about the white horses for a part of the 5th because I've read it somewhere along with a note saying that it was very unusual. Frederick, ever the practical soldier, didn't like his hussars riding white horses because they were too easily seen when on picket duty / scouting. He withdrew their standards for the same reason. |

it was somewhere else and a lot more detailed than Kronoskof |
