…Entire Ocean.

"Fifty years ago today, the ground heaved, buckled and roiled as an enormous earthquake struck in Alaska's Prince William Sound near the town of Valdez. Lasting 3 minutes (something we don't even want to think about), the magnitude 9.2 quake is the second-largest ever recorded. When all had settled, 131 people were dead. Most, including 11 people in Crescent City, Calif., were killed by tsunamis the quake sent crashing ashore along the northern Pacific Ocean rim. From Asia to South America, coastlines were flooded by waves that had come from Alaska. In Valdez Inlet, the waves reached heights of more than 200 feet. The animation above shows how these waves might have traveled over 20 hours from their epicenter to shores as far away as northern Chile"

I remember that well. Years later I had a friend at school who lived in Alaska during the earthquake. He had a picture of his elementary school after it had been sucked into the ground. If schools hadn't been closed for Good Friday the death toll would have been about 250 higher.

Tango, I'm really missing the miniatures aspect of this otherwise interesting news report. I do read almost everything you publish, but let's keep it at least related to miniatures or military. Not ecological history.

Well how many great civilizations have been weakened by major quacks or Tsunamis? Then those pre classic Greeks come along and start raiding and pillaging.

Or when that island in the Canaries has the mountain fallinto the sea and causes a tsunami to wipe out the east coast of the USA.

Too soon… wink

Or when there is the "Big One" in California and everything to the east of the San Andreas fault slides into the Atlantic.

I wasn't even a wicked gleam in my daddy's one good eye yet. This might as well be ancient history.

It IS on Utter Drivel… That's a more lenient Board.
