Looks good Gunfreak. I know what you mean about it being difficult to get the "right" color for WWII USMC. I actually don't think there is necessarily a right color, as different lots were different right out of the factories, and definitely were faded/worn out differently due to duration and climate, but there is a mental picture that people have of what they think it should look like. Mine is different than yours, and I'm sure others have different thoughts of what they think it should be than what I do. I've actually been experimenting with different mixtures, and have decided to purposely have different mixtures within my units. Even when I was in, the wear & fading between those that had been in for a while, and those that had just reached their first duty station was very noticeable. Not to mention different styles (at one time there were Marines with Poplins, Woodlands, and the "New" Woodlands in my platoon). I can definitely tell you have Marines there, and a very nice paint job overall. |

They look pretty good, Gunfreak. As Devil Dog says, though, fading from sun and sea water leaves a whole range of colors for the uniforms. I just tried to match my father's original WWII herringbones and came out pretty close, so it was good enough for me. |

They look good! I would agree with the others about fading, dye lots, different manufacturers, etc., but there is still a "Marine look," and I think you have that. Maybe it's just his pose, but the guy with the Garand in the second photo makes me think of John Wayne in some of his USMC roles. Can't put my finger on just why, though. Perhaps I've got it backward, and the Duke managed to look like a Marine, and not he other way around. Grelber |
