Our local paper has reported today that a guy called Doug McComish had an 1000-figure painted Warhammer army stolen from the his Dad's car in Paraparaumu on Sunday 16 March.

The article doesn't say what type of figures they were, but I'll try to find out tomorrow.

Could New Zealand TMPers please keep their eye out for any suspicious sales of Warhammer armies or figures since 16 March? If you become suspicious of anything, contact me at roland DOT hermans AT police DOT govt DOT nz

I heard Danny Watson talking about that during the week on NewsTalk ZB.
I wonder if the thieves knew what they were stealing?

Probably they didn't know, DATHB – it sounds more opportunistic.

Sad to say, probably dumped in a bin somewhere if the thieves had no idea what they were stealing. I've seen thousands of game cards that were just tossed out the window of a car & reduced to pulp by the passing traffic. Toe-rags.

Otherwise, keep a look out on E-bay and any local online clones just in case they show up.

Best of luck on recovery, which might happen.

Years ago, I had some Napoleonic figures go missing at
an Historicon, including some Suren French Old Guard.

The tocsin was sounded and the word put out. About
a year later, they showed up in a UPS delivery at my
front door.

Quite a few years ago, a local gamer stored his 15mm WRG ancients army in a large metal tool box. The tool box was stolen out of his car. I imagine that the thief thought he was getting tools. As far as I know, the gamer never got his figures back, which is a real shame, considering the time and money he put into his miniature army.

That is why you have insurance. My auto insurance covers theft. My agent knows about my hobby and I have photos of all of it.

I hope the figures are returned and in the same condition they were.

That's terrible. 1000+ 28mm figures is A LOT of painting. It's really heartbreaking to me and I did not lose anything!

I hate thieves.

About
a year later, they showed up in a UPS delivery at my
front door.

That's pretty amazing.

Would help to know what we are looking for.

He should go to local schools and ask them to be on the lookout for kids showing up with pockets of 'toy soldiers'.

Do we know what figures they are yet? I've always got my ear to the ground on auction sites.
