I wonder if the Joss Whedon flag and military insignia for the Alliance (Union of Allied Planets) in Firefly/Serenity, and the Sino-American cultural and linguistic blending in the Core Planets, was the result of a Chinese invasion of the US long before humans used up Earth:

Dan, I really like the idea of a mixed Eastern/(Wild) Western mash-up with spaceport & seaport elements, maybe in a desert/Mediterranean climate. Like, California as a planet. |

Update. While watching Alien 3 for the hundredth time, I stopped the film to look up a a map of the prison and came across the translation for one of the warnings painted in red on this concrete wall: 超高温危险
According to this page, the message means "super high temperature dangerous": link I also found some info on this other wall sign: link
