I have been thinking of using the Fireforge Sergeants as the basis of a fantasy army. Wondering if anyone could tell me what fantasy mins might go with them. I mount heroes/commanders on separate bases so if they are slightly bigger not to much of an issue.

If you use Fireforge and similar plastics as your HUMAN armies, then you can use a large variety of fantasy figures, including GW Warhammer, Reaper, GW LOTR, Mantic, etc. GW human figures for fantasy--Empire and Bretonnia for the most part, are larger and/or more "heroically scaled" than most historical figures.

The FireForge models and the GW LotR models match up size-wise very well. Here's a picture of my mounted Sergeants converted to Numenorean Knights. The fellow on the white horse is a metal GW figure, the remainder are FireForge.

Did you scratch convert, or are you using shields and such from Numenorean foot figures? It looks great.

LOTR figures by GW are a bit inconsistent, though. The plastics are almost slightly smaller than the standard 28mm historical minis, while the metal LOTR figures are often much larger. Very annoying. Mounting the historical 28mm figures on bases while using slotta bases for the GW figures helps even that problem out. My OG 28mm HYW figures look okay next to LOTR plastics.

I took the heads and shields from the plastic foot figures. All the rest is FireForge. I agree that there is an overall inconsistency within the line, which I think mostly is metals are larger than plastics, but with some notable exceptions. The plastic Rangers are quite big compared to most of the others, and would probably fit in with a Warhammer Army even. Generally, though, I think they make a decent match with FireForge's models.

i only found the size issues true up until the Rohan boxes wee released. everything after that is relatively the right size with the metals.

although i did also find that there was some scale creep as the line moved into the War of the Ring.

I am thinking of doing this, with a large number of plastic Numenoreans and Minas Tirith figures, but perhaps with Perry WOTR plastics instead of the earlier medieval stuff.
