Do Foundry paints always dry with a glossy shine ? Is it an issue across the full range or just certain colours ? I've tried thorough stirring/shaking to no avail. I know the finished figure can be given a matt coat but i'm so surprised at how shiny this paint dries. |

Yes, I noticed that also. It's not really gloss, but it has a sheen. |

Perhaps new batches do, but I've been using them since they came out and the only ones that had a sheen were black. Because of that I quite using their black. |

Maybe it is that batch. I have used them and never noticed shine. I do matte coat everything at the end so doesn't make a difference. |

I have a number of foundry paints and they dry pretty flat. I also always matte coat as well. What color has a sheen for you? |

I use themn and all matte finish with mine (black too) They did have some batch issues a while back and big issues with some ranges such as th eWW2 and naoleonics Are these the ones your using? I assume you shook well before use as above probably a batch issue Al |

shake well and no problem, never had one |

Vexilla, what did you like best as a matte additive, talc or Fumed Silica? |

Spent some more time playing with the worst offender i've found so far, French blue 65B. I stirred and stirred the damned stuff but it insists on drying with a shine. If Foundry paints are so 'hit and miss' in performance i think i will look elsewhere. |

Well, they were consistent when they started. I had all the pots and but one was matte back in 2001. I still see Vallejo and Reaper as the best bang for buck. |

Vexilla, what did you like best as a matte additive, talc or Fumed Silica? Talc is much easier to use for for paint and I have used it successfully for varnish. I would prefer to use fumed silica for varnish if I could get it but my supply dried up [sic] when my neighbour stopped working for a paint manufacturer. -- Martin Stephenson The Waving Flag :: Twitter :: eBay |

@Martin – have you used the Tamiya flat additive? I've wondered about keeping it around for paints that end up with a little sheen when I come across them, but haven't used it myself. |

I have over a hundred paints bought in 2011 or so but not French Blue. I have started buying reaper and had no issues with those either. Not sure if it's legal across the pond but ebay stateside has a few sellers of talc and fumed silica who are reselling smaller packages for $15 USD-20 USD. |

I have French Blue (got the complete Foundry range) and had no problems . I'm on my 3rd edition of the French bues and as I said : no problems whatsoever. |

I took delivery of my first Foundry paints last week and tried some of them over the weekend. What a fantastic set of paints. Lovely to use. Mine came out matt, including French blue and the black. Full marks for the proper triad matches too. Good balance andnot simply the gimmick I thought it would be. |
