This is quite interesting.

i'm very sad to see that these gorgeous looking models are fantasy not historical . i could have used a lot of them if they were .

I don't mind the level of fantasy to them, it looks reasonable, circa early 6th edition. I'd be in if I had some comparison shots, unfortunately I'm alot pickier with my humans matching in scale than I am things like orcs.

Huh?

I admit that later renaissance era isn't exactly my area of focus (not in Europe, anyway!), but what exactly about these minis isn't correct for the 1500s?

What is not correct for the 1500s?
Armour style, expecially shoulder, helmets and breastplate.
Type of shields.
Cannon size – gun is too large for the carriage.
Carriage form.
Padded coat under the armour.
Coats of the artillerists.
Boots.

It fits neither the style of 1500, that of 1530, 1560 or 1590 (just to skip the time in between).

The infantry is closest to 1500. It will not work for historical nuts, though I assume it will be "close enough" for most. The artillery crew looks like late 16th to early 17th century (its mainly the cut of the coat and boots), and their preview of the "Reiters" and Handgunners is out of style, too (more around 1560).

That said, I am in for the Kickstarter for a Bronze. I will use that for the "imagination" part of my Renaissance armies, probably together with or opposed to the now extinct Ogre Mercenaries of WgF. I hope the pikemen will see the light of existence, though I give the whole project just an even chance to make its goal. The preproduction printout minis look pretty good.

Glad you like them boys.
I think they can work for Renaissance Armies.

These would be perfect for an imagi_naissance army and as an alternative to the EE Empire armies in WHF ( I'm looking at 6th ed as the one that gave me the most fun and has the best Fan codexes too) these are good for a number of things though and as plastics easy to morph into a lot of early to later renaissance IMO. Cheers and thanks Armand nice find

i couldn't have answered with as much detail as Puster did (thanks!) but i just don't see the point of producing something that's almost accurate .
wouldn't it have been just as easy to produce historically accurate figs and add a sprue of fantasy goodies for the purchaser to modify them with ? or even for the end user to modify themselves , it's not that hard in plastic .
then both groups of gamers could buy them and everybody ends up happy .
maybe i could use a box for Malifaux or Songs of Blades and Heroes or something . they are very nicely done .

jowady26 Mar 2014 10:22 p.m. PST

Aren't they specifically for a fantasy game? It seems to me that complaining that they aren't "accurate" is like condemning the new Perry ACW artillery because it won't work for the AWI. I imagine that I can find a use for these figures.

Had these here been historical accurate I would be into this KS a good deal deeper then I went now, but I can see their point…

Fantasy lines usually compare their prices with the market leader GW, and thus come out pretty well, while historicals have to compare with the Perrys, Victrix, Gripping Beast or Wargames Factory (and a couple of others) – which will be hard to match in both quality and quantity – especially with the first two of these.

But… I do share the sentiments of ernieR. It would have made not much difference to use equipment that was historical accurate somewhere between 1500 and 1600 to make these more attractive for the historical gamers without too much loss to the sheer fantasy crowd. The Spanish infantry in this era is underrepresented not only in plastic but also in metal, so this is imho a wasted opportunity.

Tiny Legions28 Mar 2014 6:44 p.m. PST

I think that I may have another Empire army to put together. I do agree that they are not exactly historically accurate, however, I do like what I see. They are a little more sinister, which is something that I would be interested in.

It has been cancelled!

Lion in the Stars31 Mar 2014 6:21 p.m. PST

@Puster: Thanks for the point-by-point.

Shame that this was cancelled, looked to have really good minis!

wminsing01 Apr 2014 6:22 a.m. PST

It seemed like it wasn't getting enough traction; the way the pledge levels were laid out seemed to confuse people, and also relied on stretch goals being broken to really end up with a complete army. I suspect they will re-launch in a few months.
