Lessee, my current six I've named Akagi, Kaga, Hiryu, Soryu, Shokaku, and Zuikaku, so the next batch if I go with six will have to be Enterprise, Yorktown, Hornet, Wasp, Saratoga, and Lexington

Or the size of the box. We shall see, and either way it'll be a win for my purposes
And if the finished model is 6 inches long, at the listed price point on HLJ, it'll be a steal

Having observed carrier flight deck operations, I was always curious how one would actually coordinate launch and recovery. I guess you don't have turn into the wind, so that's a bonus. It actually has 4 flight decks, 3 off the bow and 1 straight/angled deck. Again, it's amazing to watch the coordination on a single flight deck, much less 4. -ZG |
kabrank | 26 Mar 2014 4:03 a.m. PST |
Could this actually be 8 flight decks as both sides of a deck could be used in a zero G environment! |

"It actually has 4 flight decks, 3 off the bow and 1 straight/angled deck." 5. Four off the bow (the top one is split with the angled deck). "Could this actually be 8 flight decks as both sides of a deck could be used in a zero G environment!" No, two of the decks don't run all the way through. So it's 6 or 7, depending on how you count the top deck (angled separate?). |
TheBeast | 26 Mar 2014 10:45 a.m. PST |
No, only five. Note the roll-offs are only on one end. Otherwise, gravity might cause you to drop off the end into
Oh, wait

Four decks for launching from catapults, two birds per deck. Lowest deck launches first, followed by each upper deck in succession with a six or eight second delay between each launch. As the last pair from the uppermost deck have cleared, the lowest deck is already up for launching the next pair, and the others are either ready or nearly so with the next birds queued up to go. Within a 1 minute window you've eight two-ship tactical elements up and out, with the next set of four two-ship elements ready to roll. Within two minutes you've put 32 fighters in the "air," and depending upon your organization and carrying capacity, it wouldn't take long to get an entire carrier complement up and at 'em in short order. The actual technology of a 1920s-30s aircraft carrier is not the same as a spacefaring FTL-capable star fighter carrier's speculative fiction technology. The bottom line is that while the IJN had to rebuild the Akagi with a single deck, the Gamillas can get away with murder: link
So. Now I think I need nine (9) of these on principle, so I can add the Ark Royal, Glorious, and Formidable to my Imperial Terran Navy armada
that'll give me fifteen fleet carriers
that's six stands of fighters per carrier, so I'm gonna have to paint up a whole bunch of fighters while I'm at it
and I'm gonna need more DDs and CLs
oh, boy!

Have gone to the HLJ link and am sorely tempted come payday, yet another project. Question guys are their in scale fighters to go with these?, what scale approx are the models 1/1000?. If not available by Bandai anybody know of good proxy substitutes. Really liking the 80's retro styling and looking for something in that line

Johny I'd go with any of the fleet scale fighters on the market. Here's a couple choices. For the actual Yamato fighters: link If you prefer to "roll your own", check out Studio Bergstrom: link or Brigade Models. link or ADB link That's a lot of options covering the spectrum from realistic to fantastic. All are teeny tiny and look good with the smaller Bandai kits (even if not actually in scale). I can say from experience that the fighters from ADB and Studio Bergstrom are excellent. I hope that helps. |

Sadly limited room (and limited cash *L*)is why i had to make my own smaller scale Yamato inspired ships. I would love to play with those. The Yamato/Harlock style is probably my favourite of all the space opera design aesthetics
with the exception of the bloody awful new Harlock cg film. The redesign of the Arcadia is truly foul |

"No, two of the decks don't run all the way through. So it's 6 or 7, depending on how you count the top deck (angled separate?)." It is in space so it can use the sides as well. |

That Domerazu III is one sweet model, should be great for use as a CapShip in 5150:Fighter Command
The July release date gives me plenty of time to gather the funds to order two or three of them. Maj. Diz Aster STARFIGHTER COMMAND |
