I'm dipping my toes into steampunk with Mark Hodder's novel "The strange affair of Springheeled Jack" I've just finished chapter three. I'm enjoying it but I'm annoyed that
Hodder refers to Sir Richard Francis Burton as "Sir Burton"
This could be forgiven if the author was not British but Hodder should know better! I don't know if it's ignorance but it is bloody annoying!

I should say! Even we in the colonies are aware of the correct form of address for a Knight Commander. I do hope the bounder apologized to Sir Richard, even if posthumously.

I don't know; you slack off on the blighters for even ONE instant, and those damned American Fuzzies will be taking ALL sorts of liberties.

We just won't have it, I say!

Oh, wait, I'm one of the blighters.

Never mind.

I say! You chaps are spot on! I almost bit off the end of
my Cheroot, what!

Mr.Hodder used to work for the British Broadcasting Corporation (or the Bolshevik Broadcasting Corporation as we call it at my Club). This explains a great deal, he probably reads the damn Guardian! He thinks that empires are
"bad" and "evil". He now lives in Spain. I wonder if he sees the irony in that.
Doug, you my be a colonial but you are obviously a Gentleman!
Breeding will out, don't y' know!

Stick with it good sir, it's a tad eccentric, but ingenious enough to amuse and entertain.

Watch out for the peashooters in the third tome.

:-)

I've read all three and enjoyed them. I have picked up the fourth but I've yet to start it. Currently finishing Frank Chadwick's book "Forever Machine"set in the Space 1889 Universe. So far I'm enjoying it.

I enjoyed the first three books and just finished the fourth this morning. Be prepared for an interesting re-set!!
