A friend posted an article on Reaction's new temporary housing yesterday. Not strictly sci-fi, but usable as pre-fab shelter.

I like the look of it.

There is plenty of wall space to add gubbins and stuff to make them look lived in.

Nice!

But looks more like cargo than habitat.
I guess I am stuck on a more retro look:

Good find Dyehard. I had read about the dome homes a long time ago.

I dig it. I want to do some "cargo-pod-hovel" locales.

Added to the list of shipping container shelters.

Great for the first workers to arrive at a newly-terraformed colony!

Or even some of the outcasts once the cities are up!

Those look really nice.

I wonder if I can add two to the order I just placed for two ExoShelters?

Any other bits? I'm building a NF/sci fi "hardened" research station.

I think if you email Shapeways they can add to the order. They won't be printing the others for a day or three anyway.

I won't be adding more bits to these yet. The parts I'm thinking about are window options, maybe a roof hatch and the AC unit that goes on the back door. But thosw get a little small and may be better built by hand after I have a module here.

The rest of the week's fun time will be a few of the dome homes with some options.

Thanks much for the order.

Rodrick,

I'll give it a shot.

I'll definitely be interested when you do the add-ons.

An option kit/sprue would be a very welcome addition.

Cheers.

As a quick and dirty alternative I used the plastic packaging from a matchbox toy vehicle, glued on a door and coated it in a mix of filler, white glue and sand.

The original inspiration came from seeing this on the tv – link

It looks a bit too rough but it was thrown together on the spur of the moment. I have another one coated and 4 smaller ones ready for the same treatment.

That's pretty sweet for Q&D from a container.

I'll be building a shantytown soon, so I'm looking for ideas.

Rodrick,

Shapeways agreed to give store credit for the second shipping charge.

I'm planning on getting some more stuff soon, so credit is wonderful.

Thanks again for the quick reply. Best of luck with your projects.

Cheers.

They're on their way!

A question or two about painting these. Is the "White, Strong & Flexible" made out of nylon? Are acrylic model paints suitable for painting these? Rattle-can primer?

I'm making an Arctic/Polar "research" station (secret weather-weapon laboratory), so I could even just drybrush and/or wash/glaze, as well. Any suggestions could be helpful. Cheers.

P.S. I noticed that the ExoAccessories are posted as well. Heading back for those and a dome shelter, as well. Have you tried any other 15mm sci fi Shapeways bits? The packs/weapons from javelin98 and a couple of other items (turrets/car conversion kits/scenery bits/small aircraft/drones) really caught my eye. Can you recommend any other Shapeways products for 15mm sci fi gaming?

They're here.

I'm thinking these will be the first pieces to experiment with Magic Wash.

Very cool, temporary housing, settlements, etc, etc, etc.

grommet3727 May 2014 6:53 p.m. PST

I decided to pick up the ExoAccessories and the Small Dome.

These will make a fine addition to Ice Station Romeo.
